Summary
"Shit," Maverick curses, righting them with no small amount of struggle, fighting the failing jet. "Rooster, listen to me. We're going to land," he says, turning sharply back toward the shore. He scans the landscape outside of the cockpit, looking for somewhere, anywhere, clear enough for them to set down.
"What?!" Rooster shouts.
"No other choice," Maverick says, spotting a clearing in the trees. It's not ideal, but it'll have to do. He's getting more and more warning lights flashing at him, and they're running on borrowed time. "It's going to be rough," he warns. Even if they had a runway that was paved and not snow-covered dirt, they're missing a landing gear.
This is going to hurt.
--
Or, Maverick and Rooster don't make it back to the carrier in that F-14. Cue a Goofy Movie-esque road trip, only the estranged father-son pair have to figure out how to make it home from enemy soil without aid, backup, or documentation.
Oh, and everyone back home thinks they're dead.

Summary
If Pete had thought for even a moment that it would take him months to get back into Tom's bed after the first time he woke up in it, he'd have laughed. The last thing he expected was for the man who pulled a gun to protect him to go all Victorian on him.
But he had. Tom had taken him to his bed, taken care of him, made sure he was okay, and then sent him on his way with the promise of dinner on Monday. And then he'd almost acted as if none of that had happened at all - or, it might have seemed so except that when he showed up for dinner, the restaurant had been decorated with candles.
He'd been glad that he took a chance and brought a small bouquet - though he'd been ready to dump it in a trash can around the corner if he thought the vibes weren't right.
Tom had been strangely nervous, shy almost. Cute, he'd thought. He seemed confused that Pete came back, that Pete didn't blame him for what happened to him, that he still wanted to be around him.
Pete had shrugged it off - the time in his life where he might have cared about that sort of thing had been forcibly ended by the Navy themselves. What did he care what Tom's extracurricular activities entailed?

Summary
Everyone was born with a little magic - it was a simple fact of life. Some people had a stronger connection to their magic, some people had more powerful expressions of their magic, some people just simply had more useful kinds of magic. Some people had mundane magic, things like the ability to charge small devices without a power source, or the ability to stay dry in a rainstorm, or the ability to keep a pocket of cool air around them no matter the season.
Others had more potential, more power: the ability to throw lightning, to freeze the water in the air around them, to move objects with their mind.
Pete was a mechanomancer - he couldn't do anything flashy, but he could 'talk' to machines, particularly engines. It made him a fantastic mechanic, and one hell of a fighter pilot.
Not that it had mattered all that much in the end.
They'd thrown him out just as fast as anyone else when someone caught him kissing a man and blackmailed him about it.
--
Or: Pete, dishonorably discharged for the crime of kissing a man, finds where he really belongs on a journey to discover the best restaurants around him.

Summary
One of the earliest lessons Mav was ever taught was that it didn't matter if you had a sunspot, if you found your flare; it didn't mean you were going to live happily ever after. The world could take them just as readily as it took anyone else, except you'd have the luxury of experiencing it with a front-row seat in your other half's mind.
He'd watched it happen to his mom one random Wednesday evening during dinner. Had watched the way she'd gone still, the way her skin had gone sheet-white, the way her hands started to shake as she knocked over her glass of wine.
And that had been when he remembered that she'd told him about how she and his dad were soulmates; how, when he was close enough, she could hear his thoughts and he could hear hers. She'd told him his dad was too far away to feel while he was off fighting to protect them, but apparently he hadn't been too far for her to feel him die. To feel that bond shatter.
--
or, in a world where you know your soulmate at first touch, Mav tries to make sure his can never reach him. Until they find him where he least expects it.Series

Summary
Times sure have changed, Mav finds himself thinking as he watches his gorgeous husband stride across the stage to stand at the podium as he's introduced. A decade ago, this would have been a daydream. Two decades ago, a cruel joke to dangle in front of them, nearly criminal to consider. He never thought they'd manage to get here, to have this.
To be married, openly, and not have that blow up their careers. To be married, out to the public, and still get to see Ice climb for the stars - and now beyond them. To see Ice achieve the culmination of a lifetime's worth of ambition, beyond the Navy, as the new SECDEF.

Summary
There are whispers that swirl and slither in darkened corners and behind closed doors. Messages of rumor and truth passed from one host to the other in hushed tones and with furtive glances over shoulders. Whispers are a currency beholden to no value. Priceless and worthless in measures. The wrong word at the wrong time can get you killed. The right one can be salvation.
In a world built on shadowy steps, on the fringes of streetlight, and on desperate attempts to escape the clawing dissatisfaction of life; whispers dictate empires.
The only thing more powerful than a whisper, in his world, is a name. Ruthless, they call him. Ice-cold, after he committed parricide. Steady, in the following years, slow to anger and exacting in action. Warmaker, they call him now.

Summary
Everyone had that itch; maybe it drew you to the sky, or the sea, or to spiral around another man just like yourself but not. Maybe it gave you a platonic soulmate, and maybe it gave you something no men (nobody at all, in fact) had devised the right words to describe — maybe it showed you a space yet unmapped in consciousness, yet undescribed by language.
Maybe it gave you this.
