Summary
Kate Duvall and Jamie Araya-Mendoza were friends in school ever since they met in Mr. Grace's science class, but it's been years since they've talked to each other. Life goes on and people change, but this fact of life is different for them. With Astrophage exponentially cooling the Earth and society barely holding on long enough for the results of Project Hail Mary, each one's life took a different direction. Sure, they both became scientists, but that's about where the similarity ends.
That is, until they are both drafted for Project Hail Mary's second phase, with the beetles slated to return in a year's time.

Summary
When Ryland Grace wakes up in a jail cell and Eva Stratt finds herself in the middle of a spacewalk, neither of them are particularly clear on how they ended up there. Grace must do his best to reverse-engineer whatever phenomenon landed him in Stratt's body, while Stratt must work with Rocky to investigate Tau Ceti's Astrophage population.
Unfortunately, Grace is stuck on Earth.
And Stratt doesn't remember a thing.
