Summary
Leiter jolted awake, his hand going for his 226 as it often did. He suppressed his panic and switched on the bedside lamp of his mother’s guest room. He’d fallen asleep in his clothes, as had become his custom, and his sweat glued his shirt to his skin, furthering the discomfort from his pounding head.
Lounging in a chair tucked away in the corner of his room sat Bond, gloved fingers intertwined in front of his face.
As he sat up, bringing his gun with him, he noticed it felt wrong. He thumbed the textured button near the trigger, not surprised when an empty magazine fell out. A slight crease by Bond’s eyes confirmed the culprit.
“James.”
“My dear Felix,” Bond began, voice low and smooth, “surprised to see me?”

Summary
The first time Leiter saw Bond's face, he clipped the mental image and added it to one of the many lists he kept in the back of his mind. He'd started the list as a fresh recruit and labeled it “stay away,” but its exact meaning changed as Leiter moved closer toward belonging on the list himself. At the moment of Bond's cataloging, Leiter would have titled the list something like "proceed with caution."
In retrospect, he could have been a little more cautious.

In today's world, the Sybil System is everyone's conscience: by looking at data (everything from Facebook posts to security cameras) this AI can determine what people are criminals before they can do wrong. Some criminals, though, are dangerous enough to outrun her for a time - those criminals, when caught, are put to use instead of put down. After all, what better way to hunt down monsters than with the better monsters?
Enter Q. He's not dangerous - at least to the common eye - and he's perfect for the job of Quartermaster for all of these 'better monsters.' But he's got an agenda, and he's not the only one...

"It's not the next best thing, dear," Bond said, watching her pour the drink into a frosted glass. "It's far better."

Bond’s custom cigarettes had small wrinkles at the ends, giving them the expensive feel of a unique creation. He missed them, but corner store tobacco would just have to do.
“I thought I’d find you here.”
Q dragged his gaze up to look at the face of the man speaking to him. He couldn't stop his hands from shaking, but it was a cold evening.
“You started smoking again?”
“I don’t know, James. What do you think?”
