Jax… knew that voice, though. It made all of the difference. He wanted her to say something else-- he needed her to say something else. He could hear his heartbeat in his ears. In the back of his mind, he could hear a jester-looking girl laughing at something stupid he said.
(Or: After escaping the circus, Jax finds himself back in the unchanged real world. Unfortunately, the relationships he'd made-- and didn't make-- in the Circus continued to nag at him.)

After all, the Dursleys *are* the key to Harry's Blood Wards. Though McGonagall is appalled, she is ultimately unwilling to take a stand against Albus.
Enraged at this dual neglect, Severus Snape decides to take matters into his own hands. Little does he know that his attempts to modify Harry's Blood Wards will result in *accidentally adopting* The Boy Who Lived. Shocked and horrified, Severus is left with no choice but to move forward as best he can. After all, there's no use crying over spilled potions. . .
This fic is set just after the Weasley siblings rescue Harry from the barred window/canned soup/cat flap situation in Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets. Plus now there’s an exciting tournament happening, Snape’s darkening mark means Harry might get his chance for revenge on Voldemort sooner rather than later, and the new Defense Professor is an absolute bloodthirsty genius.
So Harry’s great.
It’s just that Severus Snape is not doing so great. He worries if his ward will survive a year filled with danger, masked enemies, and changes happening quickly within the student body.
