Hire was a mild way of putting it. Hire implied a level of choice in the matter.
____Doc has a lead to striking a blow at a network of hybrid hunters and traffickers. All it requires is for Etho to face a part of his past he would much rather leave behind.

Impulse would be the first to tell you that paranormal investigation of any sort is a dangerous job. Sure, any job has its risks; mistakes have consequences wherever you work, whatever you do. It just so happens that the consequences associated with ghost hunting are slightly more…dire than for your average job.
Ghost hunting could turn out to be deadly. Not permanently, of course; instant revivals had made sure of that.
Still, returning from the dead…it wasn’t an easy task. Even with the assistance of instant revivals, it's rough. It has...effects, without fail.
Impulse has made it a point to teach every new teammate—Grian, Scar, Gem—that everyone reacts differently to deaths. And especially to being brought back. Impulse, as an example that he provided to the group, explained his own experiences with returning to life.
Recovering from the deaths was never easy, but they’ve always managed. Even when things don’t go quite as planned.
Or, five times the GIGGS crew deals with returning from the dead, and one time things go terribly, horribly wrong.

Scar pulled up his chat history with Grian one final time. Each of his messages were still lacking replies. Each still completely unread.
"No." Scar said sternly. "I'm coming with you."
Pearl seemed surprised by his reply, but she made no objection.
"Xisuma?" Scar said, holding the comm up to his ear once again.
"Scar, what is going on? Why are you and Pearl still there?"
Scar didn't answer his question, he only kept talking. "Cub owes me a favor. Tell him to take care of Jellie while I'm gone."
Before X could say anything back, Scar had hung up. He looked back up at Pearl, a strong feeling of determination settling in his bones.
"I'm not jumping to Season 10 yet. Not unless it's with Grian."
Pearl nodded, understanding him perfectly. "Then let’s go find him."

Or, Scar wakes up the morning after Secret Life ends to find that Grian is missing. On top of that, despite being the winner, his memories of all the past games haven’t returned to him. Him and the other previous winners of the traffic games suspect something is up, so they all hatch a plan to get Grian back and end the cycle of death games once and for all.

Pearl’s speeding towards him through the water, riding some kind of machine that’s gotta be modded; it’s gotta be. Maybe those handlebars come from armor stand bits, but all the rest? Uhhh, yeah. So, that happened.
I’m a fish now, Tango thinks, staring forward. My blinkers don’t blink. I am just… Fishman Tango from now on. He jogs down the beach, flinging hands to either side. “I- I don’t know what my eyes are even seeing right now! Whaaat? I don’t- I don’t understand, no. Pearl, how are you-? Where did you get that!?”
Every July, the Hermits visit a local beach server. And every July, Tango stays on the sand—well away from the cold, unrelenting surf.
This year, Pearl brought a jet ski.
