Summary
Neuvillette cuts through the dark and turbulent waters, his tail churning bubbles in his wake, his arms wrapped around his abdomen. Brutal cramps clench his muscles, and he shudders, his gills sucking in air as pain claws through him. Around him, the water feels like ice: he is too hot, too needy, too full of aching desperation. A clutch of eggs lays heavy in his belly.
While escaping from his underwater court, heavy with eggs, Neuvillette rescues a drowning Wriothesley, who is more than eager to repay the favor of his life.

Tighnari laid a hand over his stomach and breathed deep. He should have known better than to let anyone get close during his heat. Let alone the man he’d been harboring feelings for since their days in the Akademiya. But Cyno had always been good to him, never questioning his reasoning. Of course, the General Mahamatra would do anything Tighnari asked…even if his reasoning wasn’t sound in that moment.

Summary
This time when they kiss it is slower and sweeter. Neuvillette humors him, tongue sweeping across Wriothesley's lips, through his mouth, down and along his tongue as he tastes him in the same way he does his fancy waters. It is lazy almost, Wriothesley leaning over Neuvillett’s lap with one hand braced against his thigh.
Neuvillette’s tongue is forked. He tastes like the ocean, like salt-brine, and Wriothesley can’t get enough. The fifteen years of his waffling is worth it for this one moment.
Wriothesley is nearly forty when he finally kisses Neuvillette.

“I’ve never seen you look like this,” Neuvillette continues. His lips are downturned. “You look… nervous. Have I done something to offend you?”
And that notion is so preposterous that Wriothesley can’t help it—he barks out a startled laugh. This seems to deepen the frown on Neuvillette’s face, so he quickly reigns himself back in, desperately trying to think of something reassuring to say.
“No, no,” he starts, and like the absolute brainless fool that he is, he blurts out, “you have a new outfit.”
Oh, fuck.
Wriothesley sees Neuvillette's new outfit and promptly loses the ability to think.

A beat of silence passes. When Wriothesley looks up again, Neuvillette’s expression has noticeably relaxed. The barely-there hint of a smile looks beautiful in the dim light of his office.
“I am most grateful for your invitation, Your Grace, and I would happily accept,” he says.
Wriothesley had not expected that answer. He blinks. “Really?”
“Of course,” Neuvillette says, amusement creeping into his tone. “The event happens to fall during a lighter period of activity here at the Palais Mermonia. A happy coincidence. I can be free for the evening.”
The Fortress of Meropide comes together for a scrap-up celebration of White Day—a grander event than any they've hosted before. Wriothesley invites Neuvillette, and the night proceeds in a way that he is not at all expecting.

Tighnari heard a breath catch, followed by the sound of a body pushing itself up against a tree. He sighed, lifting his head. "Yes, you."
There were a few moments of silence, before a figure donning a cotton cloak stepped out. This time, it was Tighnari's turn for the air in his lungs to be stolen.

Cyno gently covered his mouth with his hand. Tighnari’s mouth snapped shut, clenching his teeth. If there was one thing he hated more than stupid adventurers, it was not having autonomy and control. The idea that their meeting was preordained had been less of a romantic fantasy come true, and more of a devastating reminder of his own helplessness in the grand scheme of things.

He nodded sharply against warm flesh. Please, the action seemed to say.

Wriothesley trembles beneath Neuvillette’s doings and tangles fingers in hair again, pulling enough to burn at the roots.
It’s then that Neuvillette realizes the floor length mirror is behind them, placed against the far wall by the closet. He spares a glance behind him, and catches sight of his reflection.
They hadn’t bothered to turn on the lights, the dim lamps from the living room leaking in, a small spool of light against the carpets, and now Neuvillette’s scales shimmer, caught in moonlight, while his rhinophores shimmer with a blue hue that echoes in his amethyst gaze.
- Whisked away to their cabin in the Erinnyes forest for the Yule season, they indulge in each other before the mirror in their rooms. An evening of worship and tender loving care is in order.
