Tanjiro has spent his life, since his father's death, helping his mother raise his siblings and run their bakery, only deviating from that focus to study as a paramedic. Shane was ready for university to be a fresh start where he could put his head down and focus on the work, and where he could get away from things that haunted him in the past. But when he is lucky enough to be assigned a shared dorm with the most attractive man he'd ever seen in his life, all those repressed feelings start to bubble back up to the surface.
Some would say that Ilya travelling half way across the world to do an average degree at an average university looks a lot like running away from his problems. And they may be right. A stroke of pure administrative luck puts him wall to wall with something he wouldn't mind staying still for.
Or: Shane and Ilya are roommates in a shared university dorm, and they are immediately into each other, no matter how much they want to deny it.
