Summary
Finding out about his parents' murder at the hand of the Winter Soldier, Captain America's old war buddy, pushes Tony Stark into a very dark place and he turns to the former HYDRA assassin with a burning fury, part of him screaming for revenge.
Finding out that Steve knew and didn't tell him pushes him over the edge and he lashes out against the super soldier, but just as Steve is about to retaliate the Winter Soldier takes Tony by surprise, by knocking Steve out and surrendering.The Asset knows that to be free HYDRA must be crushed, and for that to happen his best chance is the resources of Tony Stark, when Captain America shows up in Bucharest the fragmented memories of who he once was tells him that the Captain will protect him and bring him to the Avengers so the Asset goes with him, but when the Captain is about to attack Iron Man with deadly intent he makes a choice and goes against the voices within.
The Asset neutralizes the Captain and surrenders to Iron Man, hoping that he will be able to convince the man to use HYDRA's own weapon to take them down.- Language:

I'm both glad and not glad Icarus if 'malfunctioning' so often, as it means he's somehow able to overcome the conditioning faster and better, but also means more pain and recalibration often
Was right about the codewords, here are their meanings;
Ruined - he came to them in a ruined suit & previous torture.
Merchant - reference to his tabloid calling the merchant of death
Three - he spent three months in the ten rings base camp.
Nightfall - reference to his nightmares, and in contrast to James’ daybreak
Flight - his namesake as Icarus and how he flew out of the ten rings only to fall captive to Hydra.
Eight - he was captured in 2008
Malignant - with the brainwashing he lost his sense of morality/self and was made into a weapon.
Missing - he was labelled as missing, never dead because rhodey is a stubborn bastard.
Twenty - he was captured in 2008, and reverted to his early twenties via serum.
Sand - he was captured & tortured in the afghani desert. this also marked the death place of Tony, and the birth of Icarus.Icarus and Soldier are cute with their behavior

Tons of names he was known by
Apparently Leere is his original one? His true name
He's also known as The Void, I presume in the same manner there's Life, Death and Time. (Ah. Leere is Void in German, author sees Void as his True Name, but felt that writing it as Leere fit better)While we are lead to believe they are Tony's siblings, those that died, decided to die, Death's words make me question it.
It appears as if Tony was the first, and perhaps brought them to life as his siblings. She referred to them as 'siblings', and these words, words that are about him, make my belief about this stronger.;

Tony's Siblings (Friends he forced to stay after dying) say that Death, Life and Time are his siblings just as they are his siblings. Which fair. It does make Death's behavior hilarious, little shit younger sister lol
Time and Life too, and explains why although he can destroy 'em, they don't seem to bothered by him, and they are on his side. They're his lil siblingsTony distanced himself from them in a search for what he believed to be Love, but in reality was escape from his loneliness. Whatever Created the four, gave the other three a Purpose, a Task to do. Tony was given none, and as such has been feeling Empty and Lonely.
Tony rekindles his bond with his real (as real can be, the others were still his siblings just chosen ones. Huh explains why Death used 'siblings' as it was probably slightly insulting when she and the other two are his siblings) siblings and let's go of his other ones, those who yearn for eternal sleep

Side note... While Tony isn't the most powerful being in the universe, he is the second most powerful according to the author.
I wonder who's above him? We know it's not Death and Time, they wouldn't dare to cross him truly outside of Death mocking him. And Life, Tony didn't seem concerned by actually dealing with Life if he destroyed Death, just that there'll be Chaos afterwards-
So I know I vaguely remember, I think with Iron Portal, I had something tied to Void, him being altered by it. And I'll keep it as that.
Just, those fics, as they aren't the only ones in Iron Portal, they'll also share this tag.

A few different yet similar concepts can go under this tag. Tony quite literally being the Void like in here, I recall another fic or two with Tony being a Void Creature, a few others where he's touched by the Void and Altered, so on.
Perhaps a few others where Tony deals with the Void in one way or another, that I haven't mentioned. For example I recall a few fics where Tony is a Being, one of or the only one who survives Ragnarok, and does so by being in the Void for a long, long time.

not so much a bullet as a Jericho missile]- that Tony, being Tony, focused on a better, brighter future, and not, you know, world domination. [It would have been so easy, at any point.]But then again, there’s so many times when Tony Stark could have thrown in the towel and made the world a far worse place, long before the good Captain even got defrosted- and even more so after.

Ohh this is that fic I remember with Tony and Stephen working together (Stephen consulting) and them eventually becoming a thing. I remembered it was a time travel fic, but my brain directed me to airas_story's big time travel fic even though while there's some similarities, I've read it enough times to know it's not the one I was thinking of. This one on the other hand is very much the fic I was searchingIt does suck that the fic has Head-hopping though as it confuses me. Which hey today I learned the actual term is Head-hopping, didn't know it had a name. But it bothered me enough to search as I came across too many fics that did that lately. Personally I prefer that when you shift POV there's a clean break. Either chapter break or scene break, not well.. hopping between each POV. Which explains the name
Luckily it doesn't happen often too often where it's done badly where I notice the sudden shift, which is good for the author because it means that they're not doing it badly, it's still not something I prefer as it kind of takes me out of the momentum? Idk how to explainDo not vibe with SHEILD nor Fury. Which fair we're not supposed to, but imo Tony would 100% have been better off not using them with all their mess. Give another, legitimate, not morally bankrupt agency the job of handling Hydra.
I do highly appreciate Tony not rolling over and standing his ground, screwing Fury and SHIELD when they cross the linesKind of a closed loop, though not really as new timeline Stephen just got to watch in astral form and didn't do anything
Anyways in the timeline where Tony died things went to shit and in the last moments Stephen and Vision dig out Tony's corpse (morbid) and send him back with his memories but no knowledge of why, that's how Tony got sent back. New timeline Stephen got to witness it in the aftermath of Dormammu -
