Summary

Regina slowly raised her glass to her lips. Took a sip — small, precise, the way she did everything in this life. Set the glass back on the table — with a quiet, exact thud. And said:
"Well. That's very much in keeping with Snow."
Her voice was dry as a sheet of paper — no anger, no sarcasm, only a statement of fact, delivered with that particular intonation Regina reserved for speaking of Snow. An intonation that mixed old hurt, weariness, irritation, and something else — something Emma couldn't fully decipher, but which sounded almost like... understanding? No, not understanding. Recognition. Recognition of the fact that Snow would always be this way — impulsive, impetuous, acting from the best of intentions and destroying everything in her path. That she wouldn't change. That nothing could be done about it. It could only be accepted — the way you accept bad weather or an incurable disease.
Emma let out a short, barking laugh — not cheerful at all, more bitter, like wormwood.
