February, 1991. Mike Wheeler is nearing the end of his sophomore year at the local community college in Hawkins, Indiana. While the rest of his friends have seemed to move on with their lives, he remains stuck in his childhood bedroom, spending all of his free time slaving over his novel and reliving the traumatic memories from the Upside Down. Nearly every night, he is plagued with vivid nightmares of Eleven's disappearance. The only relief he can find comes from writing unsent letters to Will the Sorcerer. When his childhood best friend makes plans to stay with him during spring break, Mike's dreams shift dramatically, centering around Will instead of Eleven. As he rekindles his relationship with his best friend, he must figure out what it all means. Is his brain just processing things, or is it something more?

The lab tiles under her small hands shimmered like a mirage, warping at the edges as Dustin's consciousness bled into hers, his panic a wildfire scorching through neural pathways not built to hold them both. She couldn't feel anything but the absence where her powers had been—a phantom limb screaming for amputation.
Dustin's memories flickered like a failing projector. The church's shattered stained glass dissolved into the lab's flickering fluorescents, then back again, each transition razoring through El's synapses.

The sonic weapon's frequency cut out so abruptly El's knees buckled from the whiplash of returning power. The sudden rush of it was worse than the deprivation: her telekinesis came roaring back like a severed artery finally unkinked, flooding her skull with pressure that made her scream. In the wake of Hawkins splitting in four, her friends reeling from the horrors they faced trying to defeat Vecna, and losing her memories, Julie Henderson has gone with Dr. Owens to Camp Hero out in Montauk, NY. This is a rewrite of s5 because I was disappointed by it and we, the audience, deserved our byler endgame. This is basically the movies Nightmare on Elm Street, which inspired the title, The Black Phone 1 and 2, It, Weapons, Insidious 1 and 2, and the show put into a blender. The first chapter only includes the byers family, but everyone else comes into play later. Some lines in this fic are direct lines from the show because I'm trying to keep this fic as canon compliant as possible or close to it. However, it's canon divergent because some events don't match the show so it makes more sense. This fic is basically a greatest hits highlight reel with my personal spin on them. Unfortunately, characters may be ooc but hopefully it'll make sense in the end.
