“I made breakfast,” he says, nodding his head in the direction of the bacon. “Do you have time?”
Ordinarily, I would. Whenever I stay overnight at Nick’s, I’m usually the one to see him off to his teaching job. I stand in the doorway with his hoodie and my boxers on, Daisy at my feet and a mug of coffee in my hands, and send him off to his car with a kiss or three, promising to see him when he gets back. Youssef usually meets us at Tara’s Café between nine and nine-thirty for coffee and appointment assigning, and to make sure I do eat, but there are times, like today, where one of us has an early appointment and he has no choice but to tell us to meet early. I hope it’s my turn to have the early appointment. This job is a lot easier if I can get my turn out of the way instead of waiting around like some kind of death omen.
I frown. “I wish but I have to meet someone at eight. I should actually get ready, I don’t want to be late.”

Mason gets orders to head back to London to help their team on a big job. He's terrified to go, but Rube makes him go anyway. It was the worst decision of his undead life.

The second the words were out of his mouth, Rube knew he had made a mistake. Mason may have been emotional, but he could slam a mask on to hide it as good as the best of them when the mood struck him. It was almost impressive how fast his posture straightened, his jaw tightened, and the tears seemed to evaporate from his eyes in an instant, almost as if the crying and panic had all just been a very impressive, Oscar-worthy performance. It wasn’t though and Rube knew it. That had been the real Mason, vulnerable and afraid, but this was the man he became when he knew with absolute certainty that he was on his own.

It wasn't unusual for Mason to play the drama queen card. Rube or Roxy or Daisy would fix the problem whenever they caught up to them for breakfast, then it wouldn't have to be George's problem anymore. Stupid morning group reaps happening when their resident manboy was having one of his off days. Why was she always having to play mommy, anyway?
"Georgie," said manboy whined, finally picking up his head to look at her. Dammit, his eyes read sad, and not in the pathetic kind of drugged-out way. He looked genuinely, pitiably depressed, and George wasn't exactly the best person to play therapist to depressed people. And yet, he kept talking anyway.
