Rabbit Hole

Summary:

Aurora Potter is suffering under the roof of 4 Privet Drive. Nightmares crawl in the recesses of her mind. Screams are trapped in her hoarse throat. There is only so much she can handle before she breaks. Fortunately (if you can even look at it that way), entering 12 Grimmauld Place changes things for her and her new friend, Mary Lou Vance.

Uncovering a mystery wasn't supposed to lead you to another world.

(Or, Aurora Potter and Mary Lou Vance have to attend a magical academy where their presence brings all the Overblots to the yard. They would very much like to go home now.)

Chapter 1: ZERO, Introduction.

Chapter Text

RABBIT HOLE:
Introduction

All too often, the rabbit hole is as
deep as you have dug it

Every time a member of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black is born, the gods flip a coin. Or at least that's what the old adage said.

Cassiopeia Black was one of the brightest of her generation. She had the power, the prestige, and the ambition.

But she was also arrogant, like her namesake. Cassiopeia believed in the false greatness of the blood in her veins, and it had a price.

Dorea Black, her younger sister, remembered that day like it was her last.

The day before their leave for their fifth-year at Hogwarts, Cassiopeia had left for a stroll through the Black Forest near Castle Black. It was near midnight when she returned.

Her porcelain skin was sullen, her steel-grey eyes shook with mania, and blood dug itself beneath the crevices of her once manicured nails.

The once poised girl was now a wreck, she had fallen from the precipice of her greatness.

What happened to you, Dorea would ask as she ferried her secretly into her room. Cassiopeia's mouth would open and close, but only a whisper would leave the once boisterous girl.

I made a deal. I'm sorry.

All Dorea would remember of her sister was her trembling body and her tortured silence because by the next day, she would be gone.

None of it made sense. Everyone watched Cassiopeia Black board the Hogwarts Express. They watched her get into her Thestral carriage.

That day, Cassiopeia Black disappeared. And she would not be the last.

For now, there would be no explanations for her words.

(At least not yet. For it was too soon.)

Notes:

𖤝 Welcome to RABBIT HOLE 2.0!! Being the person that I am, I keep crawling back to specific plot idea bcs I can't help myself.

𖤝 This is set in fifth-year when Aurora (who I named after the Aurora Borealis) is brought to Grimmauld Place. She's still mad at Hermione and Ron because she's petty at her core and decides to bunk it with Mary Lou, Emmeline Vance's daughter. They stumble on the whole "Disappearance of Cassiopeia Black" and decide to uncover the mystery (which is short asf. I'm terrible at mysteries) because they have nothing better to do. But we all know that curiosity killed the cat, so they end up in Twisted Wonderland.

𖤝 RIP to Cynthia and Aruna. You both will be missed. I love those girls, but the plotline I was going for was pissing me off. I've seen the magicless prefect trope too much to count in fanfics (even though it's canon to the character), so I slapped the magic into both of them.

𖤝 As for Cassiopeia, all I can say is that girlie flew too close to the sun. She's now paying the price. Or is she? I guess we'll find out later.

xoxo, venus
