Chapter Text
(Earth's Thermosphere, Moments after the Mighty Megazord's Launch into Outer Space)
As the Mighty Megazord rose beyond the last layer separating Earth from outer space, the meteorite was already visible ahead. Both Zordon and an unmorphed Jason, sat inside the cockpit in complete, awkward silence.
Zordon was furious with Jason for disobeying him, but also for putting himself—and the rest of the team—at risk by coming along instead of staying in Angel Grove. For Jason, however, it had been a necessary decision. He couldn't allow his mentor to endanger himself simply because he couldn't trust either him or the team. At least, that was how Jason saw it.
As the meteorite grew larger before them, Jason felt the doubts in his head growing as well. Finally, he decided to break the silence, despite knowing that Zordon's yelling would probably be the only thing he'd hear for the rest of the trip.
Jason (shy): So, why didn't you trust us? Why come alone? - he asked, turning toward his mentor.
Zordon (angry): Jason - he turned toward the Red Ranger before raising his voice - WHY WOULD YOU EVEN COME HERE? DON'T YOU REALIZE YOUR TEAM NEEDS YOU?
Jason felt embarrassed. He wanted to explain himself, but he didn't know how.
Jason: And we need you alive too - he shot back, as if the answer were obvious.
Zordon (annoyed): And WHO SAYS I won't come back alive, Jason? - he asked, calming down slightly.
Jason: Uh, I don't know... maybe the fact that you sent us the only weapon capable of destroying the meteorite? - he tried to reason with him.
Zordon (exasperated): I DID THAT BECAUSE YOU NEED IT!
Jason (annoyed): And you didn't? - he was growing tired of Zordon acting like he was invincible.
Zordon: No, I didn't. I have a plan.
Jason: A plan involving a bomb that could destroy both the meteorite and you. Why would you put yourself in danger just because you didn't trust us to handle it? - he remarked bitterly.
Zordon (in disbelief): Who said I didn't trust you to handle this?
Jason (angry): YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO SAY IT! YOU PRACTICALLY SHOWED IT!
Zordon (annoyed): UGH! YOU'RE ACTING LIKE A CHILD, JASON! GROW UP!
Jason glared at him, consumed by anger. He and Zordon had argued before, but this felt different. Usually, when they clashed, Zordon was dealing with something difficult and was the one in the wrong. But now it seemed like the roles were reversed and even if Jason tried to explain himself, Zordon wasn't going to listen.
Zordon (annoyed): Why? - he lowered his voice and looked forward - Out of all the times and opportunities to act like this, you choose today?
Jason: Act like what? Saving your life? - he asked in disbelief, unable to accept how casually Zordon was dismissing what he'd tried to do.
Zordon (annoyed): Jason, you've never been reckless like this before - He looked back at him - Sure, you've learned to prioritize the right decisions, and you've always been the one asking me to trust your team - he tried to calm himself, though Jason's behavior still irritated him - And I've been doing exactly that. But right now, it feels like you're just looking for attention. Like a little child.
Jason (offended): I am not a child! How many times do I have to tell you that I hate it when you treat me like one?! - he turned his face away, surprising the Eltarian with his reaction.
Zordon: Um... this is actually the first time you've ever told me that.
The awkward exchange softened Zordon's mood somewhat. Was something else bothering Jason?
Jason: No, not like that. I mean... - he felt trapped by his own words - You know what I mean. You treat us like children. You don't trust us. You go on missions like this by yourself - his frustration returned – AND YOU NEVER OPEN UP TO US!
Zordon (frowning): Of course, I trust you all. Why do you think I left the monster in your hands? - he couldn't believe Jason was questioning him again.
Jason (chuckling in annoyance): Please. The meteorite was the biggest threat, and you decided to handle it yourself - he turned back toward him.
Zordon: Exactly. If something happened to you and the others, we would lose five heroes and Earth's first line of defense - he fixed his eyes on Jason, giving him a serious look - What did you expect? That I would leave Earth defenseless the moment Rita found an opportunity to strike and allow it to suffer the same fate as Eltar? - his words made Jason pause - Of course not. There is an exceptional and invaluable team on Earth capable of continuing the war against Rita if anything were to happen to me.
Zordon's words echoed in Jason's mind. He trusted them to be Earth's heroes. Then why did Jason still feel as though they weren't capable of doing it without him?
Jason (calmed down): But how sure are you that we can handle it without you?
Zordon (serious): One hundred percent, Jason - he smiled approvingly at the Red Ranger - The level of trust I have in you is as certain as the odds that this meteorite is one of Rita's schemes - he nodded - I would trust you with my life, Jason. You and your team are something I'm incredibly proud of and it is also something I want to protect, even if that means leaving you on your own.
The words hit Jason much harder than Zordon expected. Instead of reassuring him, they felt like a bucket of cold water. The exact opposite of what Zordon had intended.
Jason (doubtful): Then why doesn't it feel that way?! You keep talking about how great we are and how we don't need you - his frustration—and disappointment in himself—continued to build - BUT THAT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT WE DO! AND THAT YOU LEAVING AGAIN WOULD DESTROY ME AND THE TEAM!
Jason turned away and stared forward, leaving Zordon completely puzzled.
Zordon: Again? - he asked, confused.
Again? What was Jason talking about? Zordon was deeply confused by his young protégé's words, but before he could dwell on them, both he and Jason turned their attention forward.
There, resting atop the meteorite, was Zetax's Megazord with its red eyes that were dark and lifeless. Jason and Zordon exchanged confused looks.
Jason (concerned): Is that...? B-but how?
Zordon: This... - he was stunned, but realization struck him almost instantly - This wasn't Rita's plan, Jason. It was Zetax's - he said gravely.
Jason (in disbelief): He created this?
Before Zordon could answer, the enemy Megazord's eyes suddenly lit up. Its pilot was already inside and ready to defend his creation. Without taking a single step, Zetax's Megazord raised the cannons mounted on its arms and opened fire on the Mighty Megazord.
The barrage rocked the giant machine, destabilizing it completely. The Megazord spun violently, and as it did, the meteorite's gravity began pulling it in. Sparks erupted throughout the cockpit. Jason and Zordon were thrown from side to side as they struggled to maintain control.
MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS - Galactic Collision Part 2
(Angel Grove City Center, just then)
Back on Earth, the Rangers were battling dozens upon dozens of Putty Patrollers that Irissa had summoned. High above them, the meteorite still loomed in the sky, visible to everyone below.
Nearby, Irissa and Octoplant stood side by side, watching the battle unfold without blinking. With every passing second, Irissa grew more irritated by how slowly the Putties were defeating the Rangers.
Irissa (annoyed): Come on, you pathetic lumps of clay! Destroy them! - she commanded from outside the battlefield while Octoplant stood beside her.
Octoplant (confused): But Master Irissa, why won't you let me fight them myself? I had them cornered before you arrived - she turned toward her leader, who responded with a nervous smile.
Irissa: My beautiful flower, don't you understand? What I need right now is for the Putties to wear them down while I enhance your power - She gently touched Octoplant's face, carefully feeding her deception.
Octoplant: My power? But how? I thought Rita already had you use the "Crossing Swords" card to make me stronger than before - she said while looking down at her hands.
Irissa: And it did. But the next step is making you the most powerful flower monster in existence - She turned her attention back to the battle - All thanks to this card - She revealed another tarot card, drawing Octoplant's surprised gaze.
It was the "Separation of Body and Mind" card. A dangerous card capable of transforming soldiers into relentless engines of destruction at the cost of their own minds. Octoplant stared at the card before looking back at her master.
Octoplant (nervous): But Master... isn't that the card that ruined the lives of countless soldiers?
Irissa: It didn't ruin their lives - she replied soothingly, despite knowing Octoplant was absolutely correct - It simply transformed them into better versions of themselves. Tell me, Octoplant... don't you want that? Don't you want to become the most beautiful and powerful flower in the entire universe? - she asked, skillfully manipulating her.
Octoplant (hesitant): I-I don't know. It would make me a much greater threat to those fools and guarantee victory... but wouldn't it also make me into some hideous version of myself?
Irissa: Your inner beauty will shine brighter than ever, my dear - She caressed Octoplant's cheek once more and smiled reassuringly - Now tell me... do you trust me?
Octoplant: What about Rita?
Irissa (lying): Oh, please. Don't worry about her. She's completely on board with it. Now come, we need somewhere higher where the Rangers won't interfere.
Both Irissa and Octoplant turned toward one of the building entrances. Manifesting a sphere of bluish-purple energy, Irissa blasted through the glass doors before confidently walking inside, with the far more hesitant monster following behind her.
Meanwhile, the Rangers continued fighting the Putty Patrollers. Yet every time they defeated one, even more seemed to appear. The strange phenomenon quickly caught their attention.
Zack (in disbelief): What is this?! The Putties are multiplying!
Billy: Irissa must have altered them somehow - He punched one away before pressing a hand against his helmet - I'm detecting unusual energy readings coming from them.
Kim: Meaning what? - She kicked two Putties away, only for them to split into four.
Trini: Meaning these aren't the normal Putties we're used to fighting - She struck one across the head, but instead of dissolving, it split into two separate soldiers - I'm starting to think Billy's theory is right. This Irissa did something to them.
As more and more Putties surrounded them, the four Rangers drew their Blade Blasters and opened fire. But once again, every Putty they destroyed simply created more.
Elsewhere, Mystika had arrived at Angel Grove's evacuation zone. Determined to help civilians get to safety after news of Rita's latest attack spread throughout the city, she was about to assist someone when an overwhelming sense of dread washed over her.
Something was wrong. Not only in the physical world, but in the spiritual one as well. Trusting her instincts, Mystika abruptly turned around and sprinted back toward the battlefield. As she ran, the feeling only intensified. It felt familiar, painfully familiar.
Images began flashing through her mind. Two hands. A smile. A pair of eyes. The memory remained fragmented, like pieces of a puzzle that refused to fit together.
When she finally arrived at the battlefield and saw the Rangers fighting Putties, she frowned in confusion. Where was the monster? Then she noticed the shattered windows.
She knew better than to throw herself into the middle of a Ranger battle, but whatever she was sensing seemed to pull her forward like a magnet. She was so focused on the feeling that she failed to notice a Putty attempting to strike her from behind. Fortunately, Zack intercepted it with a flying kick.
Zack (concerned): Mystika! What are you doing here? - he asked as he landed beside her - I told you to get somewhere safe.
Mystika (confused): Zack, what's happening? Why are you all fighting Putties? - She shoved one away while Zack punched another - And where's the monster?
Zack: It went inside the building with one of Rita's generals after she summoned all these things - He glanced toward her, nearly leaving himself open to another attack, but Mystika quickly pushed him aside and kicked the Putty away - Thanks for that.
Mystika: You're welcome. One of Rita's generals? Was it Zetax?
Zack shook his head.
Zack: No. Some other woman named Irissa. She took the monster away talking about cards and making Octoplant even stronger.
Mystika (concerned): Oh no... that's bad.
At that moment, Kim, Billy, and Trini fought their way over to them.
Kim: You think that's bad? Try punching these things and watching them multiply every time you hit them.
Mystika (in disbelief): What?! That's impossible!
Billy: We believe Irissa is responsible - he theorized.
Trini: Yeah. She's somehow connected to Zetax. Maybe she's using some form of his technology.
The others nodded.
Mystika (shaking her head): No, that doesn't make sense. Alpha and Zordon taught me that Putties are supernatural clay soldiers created through Rita's magic. The only beings capable of enhancing them to this degree would be practitioners of advanced magical arts... especially Chaos Magic users.
Suddenly, the Putties launched another assault. This time, Mystika joined the battle as well.
Kim and Trini switched their Blade Blasters to laser mode, leaping in opposite directions while firing synchronized blasts but the Putties simply duplicated again. Nearby, Zack and Billy switched to dagger mode, slashing through several Putties in close combat and the result was exactly the same. Every Putty split into two.
Mystika finally stepped forward and unleashed several spheres of purple Annonite everyone's shock, the Putties she struck didn't multiply, they were completely destroyed. The Rangers exchanged confused looks.
Kim (confused): Uh... Mystika? Any reason you're the only one actually destroying them?
Mystika: I have no idea, Kim. Let me do a quick scan. Cover me.
Zack: You heard her, team! Circle up!
As the Rangers formed a defensive perimeter around her, Mystika closed her eyes and slowly raised her hands. She began turning in place, sensing every trace of energy across the battlefield, moments later, her eyes shot open. Horror filled her expression.
Mystika (deeply concerned): GUYS! THIS IS ANNONITE ENERGY!
Kim: Uh... and that means what exactly? - she asked while pushing another Putty away.
Mystika: Me! I'M an Annonite! Remember?!
Trini (in disbelief): What?! But I thought you said you were probably the only Annonite left in this galaxy!
Her words surprised the rest of the team.
Billy: Then Irissa is an Annonite too?
Mystika (worried): And she's far more powerful than I am. This spell is no joke.
The team stared at her in shock.
Whoever Irissa was, she represented a far greater threat than any of them had imagined.
But they weren't the only ones who had just learned that information.
Without the protection of the "No Reflection" card in place, Rita had been watching everything happening on Earth.
(Command Center, just then)
Alpha was in the middle of the Command Center's main chamber as he, all by himself, tried to assist both the Rangers on Earth and Zordon and Jason on the meteorite. The little robot was running between two consoles, trying to keep the Mighty Megazord's energy systems fully operational while also monitoring the Earth Rangers' health and Morphin Power levels as they battled the out-of-control Putties.
On top of that, Alpha was projecting both situations on the Viewing Globe.
Seeing all of his friends struggling made the robot nervous.
Alpha (stressed): Ay-yi-yi, this isn't good! - He activated the Megazord's intercom - Ay-yi-yi, Zordon, Jason, do you copy me?
Zordon: Alph... the Meg... on its own... who is... - his transmission was breaking up.
Alpha (confused): Ay-yi-yi, Zordon, what are you trying to tell me?
As he tried to improve the transmission, he turned toward the Viewing Globe, which was showing the Megazord's point of view. However, it only displayed the meteorite.
Meanwhile, the other feed showed the Rangers still protecting Mystika from the Putties.
Alpha tried to contact Zordon again.
Alpha (alarmed): Zordon, if you can hear this, please do what I'm about to tell you - He typed several commands into the left console - Zordon, you and Jason need to counteract the asteroid's gravity by activating the Megazord's anti-gravity thrusters.
Back in outer space, Zordon and Jason finally received Alpha's full transmission and reached the Megazord's control panel.
As they both sat down and activated the controls that powered the thrusters, the Megazord slowly detached itself from the front of the asteroid.
However, as it moved upward, Zetax's Megazord immediately targeted it with its arm cannons.
Zordon and Jason struggled to avoid several blasts before reestablishing contact with Alpha.
Zordon (stressed): Alpha, this is Zordon. If you can hear me, I need you to begin analyzing the Megazord in front of us. I will try to provide as much footage as possible so you can study its movements and find a way for us to defeat it.
Alpha heard the transmission as the Viewing Globe began displaying Zetax's Megazord from different angles.
At that same moment, a new transmission from Mystika and the Rangers reached the Command Center.
Mystika (concerned): Alpha, I need you to teleport me to the Command Center and calibrate the Blade Blasters using the information in your database regarding Supreme Annonite spells.
Kim: And please do it fast, Alpha. These things are becoming way too much for us.
Alpha (worried): Ay-yi-yi, I'm on it, Rangers. But where is the monster?
Mystika: I suspect it went further up into the building. Try to get some footage of it while I'm on my way.
Alpha: Okay, I'll do it.
As Alpha typed different commands into the various consoles, he began to worry about the outcome of both battles.
The war was becoming more intense and more dangerous with every passing minute, and right now...
(Angel Grove City Center, just then)
Back at the fight, the team was still handling the Putties as best they could, but they were getting close to being overwhelmed and drowning in a sea of grey warriors. Mystika had already been teleported away, but the team still hadn't received any useful tool to defeat the Putties.
The Rangers took the fight inside the building, which turned out to be a hotel, and as they fought through the main lobby, the Putties started using the furniture and objects inside against them, throwing suitcases and using luggage carts to attack the team, knocking them down and separating them into different areas.
Trini was fighting in the reception area. She jumped behind the front desk and shot several Putties toward the main entrance, but they split apart and attacked again. When two of them fired directly at her, she managed to duck behind the reception computers, creating a shower of sparks and allowing her to escape.
Billy fought and blasted several Putties in the section of the lobby closest to the entrances, throwing them into a revolving door beside the main entrance that Irissa had destroyed earlier. However, as the door rotated, more and more Putties entered the building, throwing themselves at Billy. He leapt onto a decorative fountain sculpture and tried to shoot them from there, but it quickly became too much for him, forcing him to jump into the lounge area alongside Trini.
Kim was also fighting near the lounge area, punching Putties into sofas and armchairs before they got back up as two separate soldiers. Surrounded by them, Kim jumped onto a central coffee table and used her Pink Tornado attack before grabbing onto the chandelier above as the Putties overran the room.
Meanwhile, Zack was throwing Putties into the elevators while fighting in the hallway. Soon, the elevators became overcrowded and the Putties began falling over each other. Taking advantage of the chaos, Zack taunted them into following him toward one of the elevators, only to jump away at the last second. This gave him enough space to signal the others to follow him into the emergency stairwell.
There, the team blocked the door using some of their Blade Blasters and ran upstairs.
Kim (alarmed): Guys, we need that recalibration on our weapons as soon as possible - she said as the team stopped halfway up the stairs to catch their breath.
Zack: Yeah, this is getting out of hand - he said while looking at the rest of the team.
Billy (hopeful): Let's try contacting Mystika and see if she has any news.
The four Rangers activated their communicators.
Mystika: Rangers, are you there? Alpha and I are close to upgrading your Blade Blasters so they can reverse the Annonite spell, but it's not ready yet - her voice came through the communicator.
Trini (sighing): Great. We're trapped inside the same hotel that Irissa and the monster entered - She sat down on one of the steps - Alpha, don't you have any way of getting us out of here without running into them?
Alpha: Ay-yi-yi, I'm afraid not - His words discouraged the team a little - I am currently monitoring your exact locations and the dark chaos energy inside the building. It appears that you are on the third floor, while they are on the eighth floor and getting close to the rooftop. Any idea why they would be heading there?
Zack: Not really, Alpha - he leaned against the wall.
Kim (negative): Yeah, that hag and the narcissist just ran off with the monster.
Mystika (curious): Didn't you say something about a card? - she asked the team.
Billy (realizing): Yeah, she mentioned some cards giving her power, but what about it? - he asked through the communicator.
Mystika (serious): Rangers, in Annonite culture, there is a traditional relic passed down by the Great Shaman from one generation to the next - She explained, sounding somewhat uncertain, as if she didn't fully believe what she was about to suggest.
Kim: Very interesting, Mystika, but this isn't exactly the best time for a history lesson, is it? - she urged her friend to get to the point.
Mystika (slightly annoyed): Okay, fair enough. But the thing is... - she hesitated - That relic is a set of twelve cards that young Annonites study in order to master their powers.
Trini (realizing): Then you must know those cards! - she said as she immediately stood up.
Mystika (sighing): Sadly, yes - Her voice still carried some hesitation, but she focused on what mattered most: helping the team - Do you remember which card she mentioned?
Trini (focused): She said something about separating something - She looked at the others as they all tried to remember - Like body and head... or something like that.
Mystika (concerned): Oh no. You mean the Separation of Body and Mind card?
Kim: Yeah! That's the one she mentioned - her expression changed immediately.
Mystika (stern): This is bad. That is a destructive card that can turn its target into a mindless puppet in exchange for greater power - Her fearful tone worried the team.
Billy: Then she's planning to turn that thing into an even more powerful monster - he voiced the obvious conclusion.
Alpha (alarmed): You need to stop her, Rangers, as quickly as possible before she completes the transformation!
The team looked at one another.
Zack: Guess I'll be using the Thunder Slinger then - he said decisively.
Zack pulled out the weapon, and the four Rangers stared at it, thinking about what it meant to have the Thunder Slinger in their possession.
Kim (worried): Do you guys think Jason is alright? - she asked while looking at the rest of the team.
Billy: I don't know - He raised his communicator closer to his helmet - Alpha, do you have any news from Zordon and Jason?
Alpha: Ay-yi-yi, I'm afraid not. But as soon as we hear anything, I'll let you know - His answer lowered the team's spirits again, but they knew they couldn't waste any more time worrying about Jason and Zordon - For now, you need to reach the rooftop.
Zack (determined): We're on our way - he said as the team nodded in agreement.
Mystika: Perfect. Alpha has just finished recalibrating your Blade Blasters, so you can use them to destroy the remaining Putties - she said, relieved - Good luck, guys!
The transmission ended, and the Rangers looked at each other, ready to sabotage Irissa's plan.
(Rita's Lunar Palace, a few minutes earlier)
Inside the Lunar Palace, Rita was observing the fight between the Earth Rangers and the Putties, furious and shocked. Her only thought was how stupid she had been to trust Irissa. It was obvious to her that the tarot reader had been playing her the whole time. It wasn't Zetax, it wasn't Veyatriz, it had always been her, the Annonite who had posed as a simple and foolish tarot reader. Finster was silently serving some tea as Goldar whispered to him, scared and curious about how Rita was acting.
Goldar (fearful): Little leprechaun, did you know? - he turned to the calm butler - Did you know that Irissa was one of those trashy Annonites?
Finster (serene): Your stupidity surprises me day by day, Goldar - he filled the cup with tea - Of course I didn't. Anyone who knew about it would be committing treason against our queen - he walked away with the cup in hand to give it to the furious witch
Goldar: Anyone? - he asked in disbelief at Finster's unbreakable nerve
Rita, who was still facing Earth with her hand clenched and nearly melting the balcony railing with rage, heard his footsteps approaching. Before he could even address her, she turned to him and threw both him and the cup against a wall, screaming like a madwoman.
Rita (full of wrath): I DON'T WANT ANY TEAAAAAA! I WANT THAT PIECE OF INTERGALACTIC ANNONITE GARBAGE HERE TO GIVE ME ALL OF HER POWERRRR!
She screamed hysterically as Goldar knelt before her, completely terrified by her reaction. He had never seen her act this horribly toward anyone, especially Finster, who simply stood up, shook the dust from his clothes, picked up the cup, and filled it with tea again as if nothing had happened. Meanwhile, Rita walked toward her throne.
Rita: IT WAS ALWAYS HER, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT, I GOT PLAYED BY A DIRTY AND HOLIER-THAN-THOU ANNONITE! - she sat on the throne full of fury
Goldar (merciful): My queen, she fooled everyone, no one could have seen it coming - Rita set her gaze on him
Rita (angry): SHUT UP YOU USELESS MONKEY! - she launched him into another wall as Finster walked up to her with more tea, the butler avoiding the flying general
Finster (still calmed): Here, my queen, drink some tea to calm your nerves - he handed the cup to her
Rita (screaming): ARE YOU DEAF OR JUST STUPID? I DON'T WANT ANY TEA! - she threw the tea in his face, but the butler without hesitation picked up the cup and returned to the table to serve another one - SHE, SHE, SHE FOOLED ME, OH IF ONLY MY MOTHER COULD SEE ME! DO YOU KNOW WHAT SHE WOULD DO TO ME, GOLDAR? - she addressed her remaining general
Goldar, who had stood up from the impact and immediately knelt again before her, was scared to answer.
Goldar (stammering): M-m-maybe, s-s-she would've understood? - he delivered his answer as a question, pissing Rita off even more
Rita: UNDERSTOOD? SHE WOULD HAVE SENT ME TO HELL RIGHT THEN! - she screamed at Goldar as she launched him into the wall again, while Finster once more avoided him and walked up to her with another cup of tea - SHE MANIPULATED EVERYTHING AND I CANNOT LET HER REACH HER OBJECTIVE, BUT WHAT IS IT? - Finster handed her the cup again, only to get it thrown back into his face
Finster (unmoved): Perhaps, it's just part of a bigger scheme, my queen - he said while picking up the cup for a third time as Rita scratched her chin impatiently
Rita (lighting up): ZETAX?
The butler simply looked at her straight in the eye.
Rita: BUT WHY?! - she frowned in desperation - WHERE IS HE BY THE WAY? THAT WORM PROBABLY KNOWS SOMETHING - she frowned even more as she realized something - NOW WAIT A MINUTE, why did that TRAITOR use the Putties to take over Octoplant? It doesn't make any sense. Why retire such a good warrior and risk the Rangers creating a plan to defeat her?
Goldar, who had stood up once again, looked at her fearfully.
Goldar (nervous): It seems like a stretch, don't you think? She could just want to defeat them as quickly as possib— he didn't get to finish his sentence as his mouth disappeared, sending him into a panic
Finster: The chances are that whatever she's after... - he filled the cup for a third time and paused - ...is at that meteorite, and she needs the Rangers to destroy the monster as quickly as possible so they can reach the meteorite - he said while once again offering Rita the cup, but this time the witch accepted it - And destroy it themselves, so that she doesn't interfere with our plan and...
Rita (sighing in rage): Keep her façade HERE - she wanted to scream again, but instead let out a maniacal laugh - MWAHAHA! That rat is smart as hell - her smirk disappeared - But not anymore. I'm getting that meteorite and seeing for myself what's inside it before she can even touch it.
Rita stood up and walked toward her balcony, and channeling all her energy into her magical wand, she cast a spell at the meteorite, causing it to change trajectory. Now it was heading toward the Moon, all thanks to the fury of a single-minded Rita.
Zetax, who was smirking inside his Megazord while watching the scene unfold, felt the slight change in the trajectory as his Megazord lost its balance and stumbled. His smirk quickly turned into a frown of concern; he knew that Irissa was probably the one who had gotten her cover blown.
He quickly stood up inside his robot's cockpit and typed some commands, switching to footage from Earth, specifically the building where the Rangers were fighting. This time, both Irissa and Octoplant were on the rooftop, and she was preparing her ritual to transform the monster with her card. As Octoplant positioned herself in the middle, Irissa threw her card into the sky and channeled her purple energy into it.
Irissa (focused): Now, by the power of the Great Shaman invested in me! Divine Separation of Body and Mind! Take this soldier and fuel its power to the maximum!
As the card absorbed the purple energy, it projected another giant card that engulfed Octoplant. Transforming her into a massive green bulb the size of a car, with thick veins that started spreading through the rooftop floor. Irissa smirked as now the monster was defenseless and ready to be defeated by the Rangers, who had managed to reach the rooftop on time.
Now everything was in their hands. All she needed to do was fake being defeated and Rita would be thrown off completely. But as she smiled toward the sky, she noticed the meteorite was gone.
(Outer Space, Meteorite Nostradamus 8, right after Rita's atracttion spell)
The Mighty Megazord managed to land on the meteorite while also noticing the change in its trajectory at the same time that Zetax's Megazord stood up, and both robots stared at each other. Zordon activated the Megazord's intercom, managing to connect with Zetax's Zord.
Zordon (serious): Who is piloting this Megazord, and why are you here? - he asked as the villain's robot threw a punch that the Megazord blocked with its own arm.
Zetax (smirking): Well, that's a surprise. I didn't think you still had the guts to pilot a Megazord, Zordon - The Mighty Megazord pushed Zetax's robot away.
Jason (surprised): What happened, Zetax? Got jealous of our Zords or what? - he cockily spoke through the intercom.
Zetax: Jason as well, huh? - he chuckled - That explains why there are only four Rangers getting beaten down by Rita's soldiers - His Megazord raised both arms and fired at the Mighty Megazord.
Jason (offended): What do you mean getting beaten down? - The Mighty Megazord jumped and avoided the attack.
Zordon: Don't get distracted, Jason. The others are probably handling it just fine - Zetax's Megazord fired again.
Zetax: Do you really think that? - he asked cockily.
His mind games were getting to Jason, who hesitated and failed to avoid the blast, sending them crashing to the ground.
Zordon (reprimanding): I told you, Jason, don't get distracted - The Megazord stood up and charged at Zetax with its sword.
Jason (struggling): I'm sorry. It's difficult not to worry about them - Zetax and his Megazord avoided the slash and then hit the Mighty Megazord with its blaster.
Zordon: Well, you have to trust them with that - The Megazord stepped back and then charged again, using its sword to cut through the blast.
Jason (worried): Easier said than done - The Megazord jumped and kicked Zetax's robot backward.
Zetax, who was nervous about whatever was happening in the Lunar Palace, decided not to waste any more time fighting them. He typed several commands, and his robot began levitating above the meteorite, using its remaining blaster to fire at the Mighty Megazord. The Mighty Megazord staggered backward several steps before falling onto its back.
Zetax placed his Megazord's foot on the Mighty Megazord's chest and aimed its blaster at it. The Venexian smirked once again. Maybe it didn't matter if his plan wasn't unfolding exactly as intended. He could still eliminate the Red Ranger, the Rangers' Megazord, and his archenemy Zordon all at once.
But before he could fire, the Mighty Megazord kicked him away, causing him to lose his balance and crash back onto the meteorite's surface. Both Megazords tried to stand up, but the gravity of the meteorite was becoming stronger and stronger.
Zordon (serious): Jason, the situation is getting worse. Wherever this asteroid is heading now, it's close. We could be destroyed. You need to leave now!
Jason: What? And leave you here alone? No way - he answered in disbelief.
Zordon (annoyed): Stop being so stubborn, child. You are disobeying a direct order.
Jason (defensive): Well, I don't care about that. I want to help you get out of here alive, don't you get it?! - he was getting frustrated again.
Zordon: Jason, you have to trust me! The moment you leave, I'll be fine - he turned to Jason, who was visibly upset.
Jason: You'll be fine? - he chuckled as his emotions began to bottle up almost to their limit - YOU'LL be fine?! WHAT ABOUT ME?! WHAT ABOUT ME ONCE YOU LEAVE AGAIN?! - his words concerned Zordon.
Zordon: When did I leave? - Jason looked down, visibly shaking - JASON?!
Jason (hysterical): WHEN YOU DIED AND LEFT ME ALONE IN CHARGE, DAD! - he turned toward Zordon, tears in his eyes and pain written all over his face.
Jason was shocked by what he had just screamed. He had never thought of Zordon as his dad, nor did he actually see him as a father figure in that way, yet his emotions burst open. Zordon felt awkward and stared at him in silence as sparks flew throughout the cockpit.
Zordon (concerned): Jason, what is this about? - he turned to Jason as the Red Ranger lowered his head again.
Jason: Uh... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to call you Dad or anything - his voice was full of sadness.
Zordon: Well, obviously. But why did you? - he placed a hand on Jason's shoulder as the Red Ranger looked at him again.
Jason (sighing): I don't know - he tried to brush Zordon off, but the Eltarian's gaze made it impossible for him to close himself off - I guess... I guess I felt frustrated - he paused, knowing that if he continued he would be unleashing something he didn't want to - By the way you acted and... ugh, I don't know. We need to get out of here as soon as possible - he looked down again.
Zordon: Why did you really come here, Jason? - his hand squeezed Jason's shoulder gently, causing more tears to fall.
Jason (deflecting): I couldn't let you die on your own - his voice was becoming thin.
Zordon: That's not the reason - Zordon made Jason look at him. The Red Ranger was deeply affected.
Jason (vulnerably): It is, don't you see? - he sighed - When I saw how carelessly you offered to save us all, all I could think about was my dad and the way he died.
Zordon: I thought you said you didn't think about him every day anymore.
Jason (teary): Well, I lied. There are days... you just can't erase them like I told you, okay? - his eyes filled with more tears as he tried to wipe them away.
Zordon: How did he die? - he asked delicately, removing his hand from Jason's shoulder.
Jason: I was ten. It was the day my little sister was born - Jason started to open up - My mom was at the hospital with her. Pearl was tiny, and I remember my dad holding her and smiling at her - Jason looked down again so Zordon wouldn't see how hard he was crying - Me and my dad decided to go buy her a gift at a nearby store. We got there, and then he spotted a robbery -Jason's voice was pure sadness - He always said that if we could help people, we should.
Zordon: Like a hero - he whispered.
Jason (whispering): Yeah - he looked at Zordon, crying - He jumped in to stop the thief, and I wanted to be a hero like him, so I ran toward them, trying to take the weapon away from the thief - his voice kept cracking - And he shielded me when the thief pulled the trigger and ran away - he was completely broken - He hugged me and told me he was going to be okay.
Zordon: He was trying to soften the impact, I suppose.
Jason (whimpering): And then... - he gulped - He told me I was brave and that from now on I had to take care of my little sister. But that it was okay, because he was sure I was going to do a good job - he wiped away more tears.
Zordon: Jason, your dad was a hero, and he was one hundred percent right. Your family and your little sister are okay because they have you.
Jason: But why can't I believe it? - his frustration started building again - Why does it feel like I can't trust anyone in the world, including him, and you, and my team? WHY DO I FEEL LIKE EVERYTHING IS A LIE?!
Zordon: Jason, what your dad did was noble. But I can tell you that part of the reason behind your lack of confidence in yourself and in others is that your dad told you everything was going to be okay.
Jason (shaking his head): But it wasn't. I wasn't okay. I never felt okay after it - he sighed sadly - Even if I tell myself every day that I need to honor him by doing good things, nothing feels as good as when he was around.
Zordon (serious): Grief is hard, Jason. And whether it has been seven years or sixty-five billion years, that sadness remains - he placed a hand on Jason's shoulder again - But to get through it, you need to trust others enough to open up about it. Because I don't think you've ever told anyone on the team about this, have you?
Jason: I can't talk about this, Zordon. Look at me. I'm a mess. How can I be their leader if I fall apart over this? - he tried to act tough.
Zordon: The same way you helped me through it back at the Command Center. Whenever this happens, we're together, and we'll stay together - Jason nodded - And your team will be there for you as well, okay? They love you and trust you. That's why they let you come alone. And all six of you together will make it - he smiled warmly at Jason - Together.
Jason (confused): How can you say that when you're telling me to go back to Earth?
Zordon: Because now, YOU need to trust me - Zordon hugged him, making Jason feel even worse - This is the key - he revealed the Morphin Bomb.
Jason (concerned): What are you going to do with it?
Zordon: The thing I should have done sixty-five billion years ago. And you're going to respect it, whether you like it or not - Jason nodded again - It's going to be—
Jason (serious): Zordon, please. I'll try to trust you, but just don't tell me it's going to be okay when I bet it isn't.
Zordon (heroic): Then I won't. But one thing I will tell you is that I trust you one hundred percent to win this war, to defeat Rita, that monster, and any evil thing this universe puts in front of you and your team. So now, Red Ranger, it's time for you to give me that confidence back and return to your team so you can keep making me proud!
Jason (nodding determinedly): I trust you, Zordon - Jason wiped away his last tears and smiled determinedly - It's Morphin Time!
As the Red Ranger instantly morphed, the Mighty Megazord stood up once again, and so did Zetax's Megazord. The Venexian was still worried about what was about to happen, especially as the meteorite drew closer and closer to the lunar surface, making the magnetic pull even stronger.
Suddenly, the Mighty Megazord shoved Zetax's robot back onto the meteorite's surface and began levitating, struggling against the gravitational pull but rising nonetheless. Zetax didn't understand what was happening until a single red spark appeared on his Megazord's chest.
Then he understood.
Before he could get caught in the blast, he teleported away as a massive red explosion engulfed both his Megazord and the entire meteorite, completely disintegrating it.
(Angel Grove City Center, Inside the building, just then)
Zack, Kim, Billy, and Trini had barely made it to the last floor before the rooftop, fighting too many Putties that were still duplicating with every punch or hit that touched them. Luckily for the Rangers, their Blade Blasters had already been recalibrated, and now whenever they shot a Putty, it disappeared completely. The team was getting worn out, but they still had a bigger threat to fight. Just before reaching the rooftop door, Zack turned to the team.
Zack: Guys, this is it. We don't know what will be behind that door, but we'll likely have only one chance, so we'd better take it - he said as the rest nodded at him.
Kim (anxious): Okay then, what's the plan?
Billy: Zack will take the Thunder Blade Blaster combo, right? - he turned to Zack.
Zack (leading): Yeah, while you and Kim go distract Octoplant and try to give me an opening.
Trini: And I'll take care of Irissa's needy butt - she said as she looked at the team.
Zack: Okay then, team, let's go - he put his hand in the middle, as the rest imitated him and all four threw their hands into the air.
Meanwhile, back at the Command Center, Alpha and Mystika observed the situation in outer space and confirmed that the meteorite had been destroyed, but they couldn't see Jason or the Megazord anywhere. Worried, Mystika turned to Alpha.
Mystika: Alpha, do you think it's possible that Zordon's plan failed?
Alpha (alarmed): Ay-yi-yi, I shouldn't have told you about it. It was better if there wasn't any lingering hope around.
Mystika (frustrated): How could you say that? Zordon's my friend - she slammed her hands on the console.
Alpha: I know, Mystika. Ay-yi-yi, but even with my upgraded probability predictor system, I can't tell how it would go, and I don't want you or the Rangers to feel let down because I lied.
Mystika (calmed down): I know. I just hope they're all okay. she put a hand on her chest. Whoever that Annonite is, she definitely played us with this. I don't think Rita was behind this plan, Alpha.
Alpha: Ay-yi-yi, perhaps, Mystika - the robot typed some codes - Oh my gosh, look! I got live footage from the hotel's rooftop. It looks like the Rangers are about to reach the monster, but its form has changed.
Mystika (worried): What? Let us see - she hurried toward the Viewing Globe - NO WAY, IS THAT—
Just then, the Viewing Globe switched to footage from the hotel's rooftop. Irissa was standing there in front of the transformed Octoplant. Mystika couldn't believe it. Irissa. It was her. Her aunt. Her mother's sister. How could this happen? When had this happened? Mystika felt crushed. She had waited too long for Zordon to remember what had happened to her mother, and now she wasn't sure what she was seeing, nor did she have anyone who could explain it to her. She fell to her knees as Alpha rushed to help her, not understanding what had just happened.
The Rangers burst through the rooftop door, determined to defeat Octoplant. Irissa, who had her back turned to them, quickly spun around and, despite appearing to block the Rangers from reaching her monster, was really only slowing them down while she tried to figure out what was happening in outer space. Trini jumped at her and fired her Blade Blaster, knocking her to the ground just as Zack pulled out the Thunder Blade Blaster combo and Billy and Kim jumped in to destroy Octoplant's tentacles.
Zack: Thunder Blade Blaster! Full Mastodon Charge!
From the tip of the weapon, a small black-and-gold energy sphere shot toward the giant green bulb, creating a small explosion that destroyed Octoplant—or at least that was what it seemed like. Out of the smoke emerged Octoplant in her original form, struggling to walk and consumed with fury. The team was shocked by what they were seeing, and so was Irissa. Her magical card couldn't have failed her like that. She quickly stood up and ran back into the building.
Octoplant: YOU RANGERS! HOW DARE YOU DESTROY MY MOST BEAUTIFUL SELF! - she screamed in rage.
Zack (annoyed): Great, Mrs. Loves-Herself is back.
Kim: Then shoot her again - she said while avoiding one of her vine attacks as she and Billy jumped back to regroup with Zack and Trini.
Billy (technical): Not possible. It needs to recharge.
Trini (in disbelief): And you're telling us that now? - she turned to him.
Billy: I thought "only one chance" was pretty self-explanatory.
Zack (heroic): Well, whatever. Let's take care of this thing while it's wounded.
Trini: Yeah, maybe we can use our weapons again - she turned to the rest.
Kim (joking): Finally, a good idea, DeeDee. Weapons out! - she took the lead.
As the team drew their weapons again and prepared to fight the monster once more, the Mighty Megazord re-entered Earth's atmosphere. Covered in burn marks, it appeared overhead, signaling that the mission had been a success. The Rangers and the monster looked up as Jason jumped out of the Megazord, which was quickly teleported away by Alpha, and delivered a powerful Tyrannosaurus-energy-charged kick into the monster, making her stagger in confusion.
Zack (excited): Man, what a great entrance! - he put his hand on Jason's shoulder.
Kim (concerned): Jas, are you okay?
Jason: I'm good, but Zordon... - he looked at the team.
Trini (worried): What about Zordon?
Jason looked down for a second before looking back up.
Jason: He said that the destiny of Earth is in our hands and—
Kim (impatient): And? Why so mysterious, Jason? - the team was nervous about their leader's attitude.
Jason: And that he's proud of us.
Zack (surprised): The old man said that? Wow! - he jumped in excitement as Kim and Trini high-fived each other, but Billy noticed the way Jason was standing.
Billy (somber): That's unbelievable, but I guess this means he isn't returning, is he?
Zack, Kim, and Trini turned toward him worriedly as Jason lowered his gaze again.
Jason (serious and encouraging): I don't know where he is now, but he told me one thing that I want to repeat: we're together in this, and we'll get through it. So I'm going to trust his words. Now let's take care of this thing while we can!
The Rangers turned around as Octoplant stared at them, confused and furious. The team roared with determination, channeling massive Morphin Energy through their bodies.
Jason: Tyrannosaurus Power! Red Mighty Ranger!
Trini: Saber-Tooth Tiger Power! Yellow Mighty Ranger!
Billy: Triceratops Power! Blue Mighty Ranger!
Kim: Pterodactyl Power! Pink Mighty Ranger!
Zack: Mastodon Power! Black Mighty Ranger!
Jason: Chosen by the Power Coins to defend the Earth.
All five in unison: WE ARE THE... MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS!
The team posed as the energy surrounding them erupted into a massive explosion behind them. Octoplant simply smirked and laughed arrogantly before throwing herself into battle.
Octoplant: MWAHAHAHA! YOU UNDERDEVELOPED CREATURES WILL NEVER DEFEAT ME, THE GREAT—
Trini (annoyed): Whatever, dandelion. We're tired of you - she pointed at her.
Jason: Let's go!
The five Rangers jumped into the fight, combining their special attacks and not allowing her to interrupt them this time. Kimberly leapt into the air and began spinning into her powerful Pink Pteronado attack as the monster tried to lash at her with her vines, but the Pink Ranger's attack was so concentrated that none of the strikes reached her. The Pink Ranger slammed into the annoying plant and knocked her off the building.
As she fell, Trini, Billy, and Zack jumped after her, manifesting massive energy claws, horns, and stomps that struck her one after another. Octoplant once again tried to use her petal shield, but Trini's energy claws slashed right through it. Then Billy delivered a massive headbutt that stopped her in midair, while Zack followed with two massive stomps that sent her crashing back toward the ground.
And just as she was about to land, Jason struck her with another Red Tyrannosaurus Energy Kick, engulfing her in flames as she crashed to the ground completely weakened. The five Rangers then combined their weapons into the Power Blaster while still airborne and aimed it at her as they descended.
POWER BLASTER FINAL STRIKE!
The five energy beams struck the monster, creating a massive explosion as the team landed a few meters away and cheered in victory!
(Rita's Lunar Palace, just then)
Irissa, still puzzled by the problems with her cards, entered the main chamber of the Lunar Palace, prepared for Rita's fury and expecting to beg for another chance for her monster. However, as she stepped into the palace, she found Rita smiling from her throne while both Zetax and Goldar knelt before her. Finster was once again serving a cup of tea to the Grand Witch. Irissa didn't know why, but the smile was even more disturbing than her master's usual anger.
Rita (polite): Irissa, my dear, you've finally joined us - she smiled at her.
Irissa (rambling): My Queen, I know you're angry about the situation, but let Octoplant have another chance. She is powerful enough to destroy those Rangers - she failed to notice the unusual softness in Rita's voice.
Rita: Of course I'll give her another chance, Irissa. Everybody deserves a second chance, don't you think? - her words made the knot in Irissa's stomach grow even tighter.
Irissa (uncomfortable): I don't understand why you're telling me this, my Queen. Have I ever needed a second chance before? - she was getting nervous.
Rita: I don't know - she clenched her teeth - You tell me, Annonite.
Irissa (fearful): My Queen—
Rita (pissed off): I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S BRAIN WHATEVER EXCUSE YOU HAVE FOR ME, YOU MANIPULATIVE AND RUINOUS CREATURE! - she stood up - Goldar, Zetax, trap this traitor!
Both generals stood up and turned toward Irissa, who tried to meet Zetax's eyes, but his face remained stern and emotionless.
Irissa (scared): Who told you, my Queen? Whoever told you this is setting you up. I don't deserve this. I didn't betray you!
Rita: Who told me this? Is someone else aware of this situation? - she walked toward Irissa, who was grabbed by both generals, and pressed her wand against her neck.
Irissa (trembling): I-I-I— she turned her head toward Zetax, causing Rita to study both of their faces for a brief moment before Irissa closed her eyes.
Despite everything that Venexian had put her through, and despite all the disappointment and hatred she could feel toward him, her feelings of love remained strong, even in her darkest moment. So she lied.
Irissa: Just Veyatriz. She knew and tried to manipulate me into helping her regain power.
Rita (inquisitive): And you helped her with your cards, didn't you?
Irissa: I— she opened her eyes and connected with Zetax one last time before turning back to her vengeful master - I did. I helped her.
Rita (impatient): And what else were you after? What was in that meteorite? - she lowered her wand and motioned for Goldar and Zetax to release her. Irissa fell to the ground, head lowered - Because I know for a fact that Octoplant was sabotaged by you. You wanted the Rangers to destroy her, didn't you? - Rita grabbed Irissa by the hair and forced her to look up - Why? TELL ME WHY!
Irissa hesitated once again. She wanted to protect Zetax, but at the same time, she knew she wasn't going to survive either way.
Irissa (weak): I had something inside the meteorite, but once Goldar caught it, I knew I couldn't get there before you realized something was wrong.
Rita: What was it? - Rita's patience was wearing thin - WHAT WAS IT?!
Irissa: I— she looked at Zetax once more, then around the room before meeting Rita's eyes again - I can't tell you.
Rita (scoffing): You can't? - in total disbelief, she released her and stormed across the room in fury - HOW DARE YOU? - she roared before looking down at Earth, sighing and calming herself once more - Fine. You don't want to tell me, eh? Then Goldar, take this traitor to the dungeon. She is going to rot alive until she opens her mouth.
Goldar walked toward Irissa and grabbed her by the hair as she screamed in pain. Before he could even take another step, Rita turned toward him and motioned for him to stop.
Irissa (hysterical): MY QUEEN, PLEASE, FORGIVE ME!
Rita (full of wrath): SHUT UP, YOU TRAITOR! - she raised her wand - ATRACTUS REQUILIA PODERIA!
Suddenly, all the cards in Irissa's possession flew toward Rita. The witch raised her hand as the cards landed in her palm, and as soon as they were all gathered there, they began to be consumed by the evil sorceress.
Irissa: NOOOO! - she screamed as Goldar dragged her across the doorway.
Zetax, who had been observing the entire situation, finally let out a smirk and turned toward Rita. However, before he could even open his mouth, the witch raised her wand and hurled him into a wall. As Zetax struck the wall, green and red flames engulfed his body while his screams echoed throughout the chamber.
Rita: I don't need any advice, Zety - as she spoke, the flames vanished and Zetax breathed heavily while staring at her, his body covered in burns and his morpher gone - Now, this is my last piece of advice to you and to anyone else whose loyalties are blurred: don't try me!
She turned her attention back to Earth and sent her magical wand toward the planet. Zetax, still completely shocked by what had just happened, watched her with visible fear from a corner of the chamber.
(Angel Grove City, just then)
Octoplant, who had already grown to giant size, was dancing through the city of Angel Grove and admiring herself in the reflection of a building's windows, completely in love with her appearance and newfound height.
Octoplant: Oh my, THANK YOU, QUEEN! I ADORE YOU! - she screamed at the sky - This new height just makes my beauty even more magnificent!
Kim (tired of the monster's attitude): More like even more annoying! - she rolled her eyes beneath her helmet.
As the monster continued admiring her reflection, a punch from the side struck her, making her stumble as she finally noticed that the Apollo Megazord was standing right in front of her.
Jason (defiant): Ready for round two, overgrown flower?
Octoplant: Bring it on, you little pathetic Rangers!
The monster sprinted toward them, her arms transforming into enormous vines that she used like whips to attack the Megazord. But as always, the Apollo Megazord's defenses were too strong for her attacks to do any real damage. The monster danced around while lashing at the Megazord, but the giant robot simply stared back before delivering another punch that sent her flying.
Octoplant (instigating): So now you're the powerful one, eh? Well, try me, seeds!
Zack: Did you say seeds? I'm all in for some toasted ones - he joked.
Octoplant stomped on the ground and leapt into the air, spinning wildly as she fired a barrage of seed projectiles at the Megazord. The Apollo Megazord drew its War Banners and, using their firepower, swung them around, preventing any of the seeds from reaching them.
Octoplant: Stop deflecting my attacks, you cowards! - she said as she stomped on the ground again.
Billy: She's right. Time to do some gardening!
The Apollo Megazord drew its Manta Katana and slowly but effectively began slashing at the monster, destroying each and every one of her petals before delivering a direct strike that caused a small explosion and filled the air with smoke. But Octoplant wasn't going to give up so easily. She stood up and charged toward the team.
Trini: I guess it's true that weeds never die.
Jason (serious): Well, this one will. Let's finish it.
Octoplant was about to strike the Megazord when it leapt into the air and turned toward her. Spinning its weapons in a wide arc, the Apollo Megazord prepared its finishing move.
Apollo Megazord: Lunar Final Slash!
Octoplant: I'M JUST A PRETTY FLOWER, DUMB RANGERS! HOW COULD YOU!
Octoplant screamed as the attack connected and destroyed her.
Jason: Mighty Rangers! That was a MORPHINOMENAL WIN!
The Apollo Megazord struck a victorious pose.
(Command Center, after the battle)
The team was astonished by what they were seeing, especially Jason. Instead of the usual throne in the middle of the Command Center, there was now a light-blue energy tube standing in its place. Inside it was a manifestation of their mentor's face. The team remained silent, trying to understand what had happened.
Billy (confused): So, that Morphin Bomb Alpha created absorbed Zordon's body? - he examined the tube and then turned to Alpha.
Alpha: Ay-yi-yi, more like his consciousness. And after that, I recollected the Morphin Energy and pressurized it into this tube, where he is now inside.
Kim (uncomfortable): Uhm, am I the only one freaked out about this?
Trini: Not really. Zordon, how do you feel in there? - she tried to talk to her mentor.
Zordon (distorted): I remain unadjusted for now, but I am okay, Rangers. My body was no longer useful for battles, and a sacrifice like this was necessary to ensure that the world was saved - his facial expressions were mixed.
Zack: But man, your body... it's gone - he sounded defeated.
Zordon: Sometimes the greater good requires losses like these - he tried to cheer up the team.
Jason (serious): Zordon, don't tell me you're okay, because you know you aren't.
Zordon: Well, it is true that this thing is pretty annoying - he chuckled - And no longer being able to touch things, eat, or even sleep is going to become depressing soon, but I'm here, and I guess that means something.
Jason: It means you didn't leave us - he gave his mentor a small smile.
Zordon (warmly): I didn't. But even if that had happened, you would have stayed together and gotten through it. And I am glad that I still have this team here in one piece. You five have proven to me once again today that you were the perfect candidates to become the Power Rangers and the defenders of this planet. I trust all of you one hundred percent.
Jason: And so do we, Zordon.
The team smiled at the sincere moment. It was going to take some time for them to adjust to this new reality, but at least they hadn't lost Zordon after all. Mystika, who had remained silent throughout the conversation, turned toward the team.
Mystika (serious): Rangers, I know you want to keep talking to Zordon, but now it's time for both him and you to rest. That fight today was pretty exhausting, so you'd better go home.
The team nodded and waved goodbye as Alpha teleported them away. Just then, Mystika turned back to Zordon, who apparently was already aware of her concern.
Zordon: Mystika, it is true that I am tired. I want to rest, or at least try to do something that resembles it.
Mystika: And I will let you. But it's time for you and me to start talking about what happened to my mom, and what her twin sister is doing inside Rita's army.
Mystika looked concerned. It was finally time for her to resolve sixty-five billion years of doubts.
(Rita's Lunar Palace, inside of Irissa's new cell, after the defeat of Octoplant)
Irissa was captive inside her cell, tied up and mentally exhausted. Her mind was flooded with thoughts and questions as she stared through a small window into outer space. What would Rita do to her? Was she really going to leave her imprisoned until she died? Would Zetax ever come back for her? What had happened to her cards? And worst of all, did Mystika know? Was she coming after her?
The mere thought of the Rangers' ally made her body tremble. As she shifted her gaze from the window to the door, she saw Zetax. His uniform was now partially destroyed, and his face was no longer as handsome and pale as she remembered. His skin now had a lavender tone, and two burn scars marked his face: one running from the left side of his mouth to his left ear, and another covering his right eye and the right side of his forehead. Irissa tried to walk toward him, but he smirked and showed her something that left her stunned.
It was her cards.
Irissa (confused): B-but how? I thought— she tried to walk toward him, but her chains didn't allow it.
Zetax (smirking): My machine. It fooled you.
Irissa: Why would you do that? - She felt all her emotions toward him mixing together: rage, sorrow, hatred, and love.
Zetax (somber): You were no longer an asset, so I had to get rid of you - He stopped smiling at her.
Irissa (chuckling): I should've known. A scientist who doesn't know that a Megazord with that many tons wouldn't change the direction of an asteroid.
Zetax: Yeah, I guess I'm not made for love, but for power - He tried to laugh at her, but the pain from his burns was intense.
Irissa (enraged): You devil! Look at you. Aren't the consequences enough?
Zetax: I've lost more than this - He frowned in pain. He was mentally defeated by everything that had happened. Losing his Megazord, his appearance, and Rita's trust was too much, but he couldn't show it in front of her.
Irissa: And you'll keep losing. Now that your Megazord is gone, and with those burns exposing you, you're bound to become Rita and Goldar's pet - She smirked at him, making him angry.
Zetax: I HAVE THESE, DON'T YOU SEE?! - He held up the cards in a fury.
Irissa: Without an Annonite to use them, they have no value - She stopped smiling as well and stared at him with pure hatred.
Zetax: Then that Rangers' ally better be useful - He said seriously as he turned to leave, but Irissa screamed at him.
Irissa (full of wrath): ZETAAAAAX! TRY IT, ZETAX! AND YOU. WILL. PERISH - Her eyes turned a deep purple, surprising Zetax with her reaction - Try it. But we are more powerful than you know... and than you can see.
Before she could do anything to him, he teleported away in a hurry. Irissa calmed down and collapsed to the floor, exhausted from the energy she had used.
(Angel Grove City's Public Beach, a few hours after the Command Center reunion)
As Kim waited for Jason at the beach, she felt strange. The recent events had changed the way she viewed the Power Rangers. It was no longer about being superheroes, but about saving the world despite any sacrifice or loss that might come with it. The safety of the world mattered above all else. As she was lost in thought, she noticed Jason walking toward her, but behind him, a little girl was with him. Kim sighed, fully understanding what that meant.
Jason walked up to her as the little girl waved hello to Kim and ran toward the waves. Jason kissed Kim on the cheek and sat beside her.
Kim (softly smiling): Sooo, that's Pearl, right? - She tried not to get annoyed that this wasn't really a date.
Jason (serene): Yeah, it's been a long time since she came down to the beach, so I told her to come along - Jason smiled at his little sister running through the waves, and Kim did too - I'm sorry, I know this was supposed to be a date, but—
Kim: It's okay, Jason. You know, maybe I pressured you too much into it - She tried to cut the conversation short, but Jason stared at her and decided it was time to be honest.
Jason (bluntly direct): Nah, it's not that - He gathered his courage - I like you, Kim, but I think I like you more as a friend - His words surprised Kim. He had never been as open as he was being now. He turned to her - I'm sorry. I want to try, but I'm afraid that whatever this leads to could bring the team down or ruin our friendship.
Kim (chuckling): Well, that sucks - She looked down, then lifted her head and nodded - You're right, though. After seeing what happened with Zordon, I think it's better not to put ourselves through any unnecessary difficulties.
Jason (sad): Yeah - He looked down - You know why I was so affected by what I heard?
Kim was surprised even more. She had never seen Jason this open before.
Jason (frowning): I think it was because, deep down, those are all my insecurities. It wasn't just what you all thought—I had thought about those things before too.
Kim: But Jas, why wouldn't you tell us about it? - She turned to him.
Jason (vulnerable): I guess after my dad died, I just became a tomb. I closed myself off and tried to stay strong to help everyone around me - He lifted his head - Whenever Pearl got hurt, or when I saw my mom cry over my dad, or vice versa... or even because I didn't want to let you or the others down.
Kim: Jason, that's nonsense. You could never let us down. You're our leader, and we're your friends. We're here to support you - She side-hugged him.
Jason: I know that now. Zordon taught me that up there - Jason looked up at the sky, and Kim imitated him.
Kim (joking): You and Papa Smurf really are that close, huh?
Jason: He reminds me of my dad sometimes - He whispered.
Kim: That's why you went up there - She gave him a small smile.
Jason (chuckling): Yeah. Even after all these years, him not being here still affects me. Kind of a loser attitude, don't you think? - He joked, making her chuckle.
Kim: Well, you've got us to help you whenever you feel down about it. And me specifically to stop you from being a loser. Although at this point, you'd never be a loser, Jas.
Jason (warmly): Thank you, Kim. I'm very fond of you. You're like my best friend in the world.
Kim: Same here, Jas. You mean a lot to me, and that's why I respect this decision—for us and for the world - She stared at the sea and smiled, confident that this was for the best.
