Work Text:
Over the last year or so since Wei Ying and Lan Zhan started dating, Wei Ying has put in a concerted effort to doing things 'properly.' Or, at least, as properly as he could manage. Nothing huge that might change who he is fundamentally. Just little things. Like watching his language when he's around Lan Qiren. Making sure his posture leaves no room for assessment when he's around Lan Qiren. Those kinds of things. Of course, it's started leaking into moments outside of Lan Qiren's visits. He's a little more mindful of the words he says even if he's hanging out with Jiang Cheng or Nie Huaisang. He automatically assumes a proper posture if he's sitting at his desk to work.
(That one never lasts very long, but he at least tries!)
He will say, though, he's never been one to use propriety to show off, show up, or make a point. So even if Lan Qiren is present for this luncheon, the mere idea that Su She thinks he can spot them and wander over and take a seat next to Lan Zhan and get up in Lan Zhan's space and talk like they're long-lost friends…
Wei Ying immediately slouches in his seat, arms crossed over his chest as an angry pout sours his expression.
Jealousy is not something he experiences often, and certainly less-so with Lan Zhan. Wei Ying hasn't the faintest shred of doubt in Lan Zhan's affection and love for him. He knows that Lan Zhan will deny anyone else attempting anything beyond friendly—and even that's a very iffy thing. Lan Zhan prefers to have few very close friends, of which Wei Ying is one of those, too.
But he is less certain of whether or not Lan Zhan considers him his best friend. Which is fine. He guesses. It's not like he spent their entire high school and college careers doing his absolute best to get Lan Zhan to look at him with anything but disdain, haha, it's so not a big deal.
…Lan Zhan doesn't even like Su She! At all! He's not even a friendly acquaintance so why (!!) is Su She babbling on like this meeting is predestined?!
"So I'm pursuing my musical degree at Xi'an Jiaotong. It's quite a rigorous program! I'm sure you probably decided to stay closer to home, yes? What a shame you can't move for your post-graduate studies—"
"He's top of his class at Tsinghua University, Su She. Are you eating with us or are you just here to gloat and pretend your BFF Jill cares about your sub-par bottom-of-the-barrel attempts to make something of yourself?"
Lan Qiren's eyes are wide and bloodshot at Wei Ying's outburst and Wei Ying can feel every needle being glared at him. It's fine, though. He really does not care!
"Why you…!" Su She hisses. His face scrunches into something even Picasso might scrap. "No one asked your opinion. You're not even part of this conversation."
"Neither is Lan Zhan. He hasn't even looked at you. What makes you think he wants you to keep whining for attention like a sick puppy?"
Su She stands, shoulders hunched and fists clenched. "You uncouth street urchin!"
"Oh, wow, never heard that one before. Ouch!"
Lan Qiren stands, then, and reaches for Su She's shoulder. "Su She. Why don't we step over here for a moment."
Su She goes willingly, though not without a final glower at Wei Ying and Lan Zhan. It brings a spicy flare of satisfaction to Wei Ying's heart, and once Su She and Lan Qiren are turned around and walking away from the table, Wei Ying scoots closer to Lan Zhan. Their arms brush, and Wei Ying starts to quickly shovel food into his mouth.
"Are you well, Wei Ying?" Lan Zhan asks, and he takes Wei Ying's free hand to hold.
"Mmp?" Wei Ying chews quickly and swallows. "Yeah, I'm great. Why?"
Lan Zhan just looks at him, and Wei Ying hates that just that gaze says so much.
He groans, and slouches once more. "I just don't like invasive weirdos thinking they can get up close and personal to you and think you're 'omg best friends' while trying to humiliate you. Did you not pick up on any of that?"
"I do not care to listen when Su She speaks."
Wei Ying pauses, and laughs a little. "Fair enough! But that's the case, just so you know. He thinks you're 'BFF's 4 Lyfe' or something."
Lan Zhan's gaze turns confused, and Wei Ying is absolutely smitten all over again.
"He thinks he's your best friend forever."
Lan Zhan scowls. "I do not care for him, and do not consider him such."
"Ahh?" Wei Ying shrugs his shoulder into Lan Zhan's arm. "Who is, then, huh? Huh? Oh, is it Mianmian?"
Lan Zhan scoots away in a huff. Wei Ying laughs loudly and scoots after him.
"I was kidding! I was kidding, Lan Zhan! Ahh, Lan Zhan, sweet Lan Zhan. Truly, though, who is?"
Lan Zhan keeps silent, focusing on his food, and Wei Ying is forced to drop it when Lan Qiren returns—Su She-less.
Wei Ying picks up his posture once again, and goes quiet as he eats.
He'll get the answer out of Lan Zhan sooner or later.
"So, are you going to tell me?"
Wei Ying looks down at Lan Zhan and how flushed his cheeks are. He looks absolutely breathless—breathtaking—as he takes Wei Ying's cock in measured thrusts. He looks absolutely ethereal like this, and Wei Ying can't help but lean down and lick at the line of Lan Zhan's throat and leave a series of bites in his wake. Lan Zhan shudders beneath him, ass clenching around him as his legs wrap around Wei Ying's waist.
"Tell what?" Lan Zhan asks, exhaling.
Wei Ying thrusts a little harder once, twice, three more times.
"Who's your best friend?" he asks, and rolls his hips. He delights in watching Lan Zhan's face shift, trying so hard to keep himself composed. Wei Ying knows he won't be able to break Lan Zhan's control, even if trying is fun.
"That you're unaware concerns me."
"What—!" Wei Ying shifts to sit on his heels, pulling Lan Zhan's hips up so he can keep fucking his boyfriend. "You've never told me, so how can I know?!"
There's little Lan Zhan can do in this position but take what Wei Ying gives him; he can't manipulate too much like this at all. He can only enjoy it. Wei Ying delights in making Lan Zhan feel so good that he's forced to close his eyes, but hates that Lan Zhan just won't answer.
He stops moving, making Lan Zhan gaze down (…up?) his body at him.
Oh, he looks absolutely livid, and it sends a thrill through Wei Ying as he grasps around the base of Lan Zhan's cock.
"You don't get to come until you tell me who your best friend is."
"Think for yourself."
Wei Ying is very good at thinking and coming up with answers! He's very smart. But he's not about to fumble the answer here; not where Lan Zhan is concerned. So instead, he pulls his hand away from Lan Zhan's cock and pulls out. He tosses the condom away, and instead starts stroking himself. He never said he wouldn't come!
Lan Zhan moves so his hips fall back to the bed, and he maneuvers to wrap Wei Ying's hand and cock in his own. Wei Ying stops for just a moment, giving Lan Zhan just enough time to take over and stroke Wei Ying himself.
"Do you truly not know who it is?" he asks, voice… not accusatory. Wei Ying knows that Lan Zhan would never speak to him that way. But it does sound a little incredulous, like this is something that Wei Ying should know. It gives him a false sense of security; an idea he's afraid to give any credence.
Surely it can't be him, right? They're boyfriends. They're in love. That's a different relationship, right? It should disqualify him from being Lan Zhan's best friend.
He knows better. He does. But the idea of it… Something ugly rises up in him at the idea that there's another soul out there who knows Lan Zhan just as well as, or even more than, Wei Ying does.
"I would if you'd tell me."
Lan Zhan presses Wei Ying backwards, and straddles him. Wei Ying watches how his boyfriend lines himself up and sinks down on his cock, and he can't help the sigh he releases as the wet heat surrounds him again. He is not going to last long.
"There is only one person I trust with anything remotely enough to consider a 'best friend', Wei Ying."
He starts rolling his hips, and Wei Ying groans as his fingers grip hard into them. It's hard to focus with a literal Adonis riding his cock like this, but he must.
He reaches again for Lan Zhan's cock, jerking him fast with every rock Lan Zhan's makes.
"That you think it's anyone but you…" Lan Zhan pauses, catching his breath. "I will do better to remind you."
It doesn't take long for either of them to come after that. Wei Ying shoots hot into Lan Zhan as Lan Zhan's come ropes inelegantly up Wei Ying's torso. The two spend a moment catching their breath, Lan Zhan carefully lifting himself off of Wei Ying to lay beside him on the bed.
Which Wei Ying takes as his cue to grab warm washcloths to clean them up with. Once that's taken care of, he crawls back into bed and holds Lan Zhan close.
"So I'm really that stupid?"
"You are not stupid. You are, however, not just my boyfriend but my best friend. I wouldn't consider spending my life with anyone who was not both."
Wei Ying's face instantly goes bright red. "G-geez, it's warm in here! We really went hard, didn't we? Haha…"
"Wei Ying."
"Aiyo, Lan Zhan! Save me some face, won't you? I feel so stupid, now…"
"It is cute."
"My stupidity?!"
"Your jealousy. Especially when it comes to Su She, whom I consider in no regard whatsoever."
Wei Ying snorts, and then pulls the blankets over them. "Yeah, yeah. Sweet-talker." He pauses for only a moment.
"…So. Spending your life with me, huh?"
