Rotten Luck/Morals AU

Summary:

This was written over the course of 2 years through private asks on Tumblr between CrazyNekoChan and I.

Concept: Kiyotaka Ishimaru may be out to bring down the talent system that Hope’s Peak stands for, but he can't do it alone. He needs someone to help, someone *normal*.

Well, Makoto Naegi is certainly normal, and he's got skills that Kiyotaka lacks. Maybe they can work together.

Notes:

Yeah this one follows a lot of the format for my longer Mastermind Ishimaru AU series, but does have some key differences between them. See if you can spot them!

Chapter 1: I Can't Do It Alone

Chapter Text

Mastermind Makoto and Taka AU: Taka had always been a firm, hardworking, and driven young man. It's a gift, though he had earned his place in HPA through rigorous hard work and determination. But going to HPA wasn't precisely a dream of his. To Taka, HPA represents the peak of everything wrong with the world. The entitlement, the corruption, the glorification of talent, the squandering of plentiful resources on elite "geniuses" while the masses are left out in the cold, it all makes Taka sick. But, unfortunately in this current world, being in HPA is one of the best ways to get his plans off the ground, so he has to attend if it meant he could get his ideal world.

That's when he met Makoto, an utterly unremarkable, normal boy that is practically the ideal subject. And Makoto even started interacting with him on his own! Taka has to confess, he's quite embarrassed that he was so naive about the more human elements of his plan, but Makoto has taught his so much!

They get to be really good friends, so much so that Taka decides to entrust Makoto with his greatest secret: his plan to create a new world. Taka genuinely wasn't expecting Makoto to be supportive. Hell, there was a small part of him (the part that knows he's being foolish) that hoped Makoto would stop him. But then, something he never thought would happen, did.

Makoto looked at the plans Taka had (all organized into bullet points and outlined steps, complete with contingencies upon contingencies, he's been planning this for a long time), then he saw Taka's anxious yet hopeful face, so clearly wishing that he could find someone that could understand his ideals, and Makoto couldn't bear to hurt him. So he asked to hear more about what he wants to do and why he wants to do it.

Taka perks up and starts to explain himself, and the more he explains, the more Makoto sympathizes and even grows to agree with him. Then when Taka is done, Makoto's completely in agreement that the world does need changing. He even agrees to help him, because Taka can't do this alone, after all. And Taka can just feel himself smile as he grabs Makoto in a hug, to Makoto's shocked sheep-like bleats, thanking him profusely for agreeing to help him

A quite adorable beginning to a plan that will bring tragedy and death to the entire world

---

Taka for sure hit the jackpot there with Makoto. Cause let’s be honest, from Taka’s (and literally everyone’s) perspective Makoto would’ve been by far the last person who would not only join but actively help out with plans to destroy the world and reform it. But here they are, not as an unstoppable team who are perfect for not only covering for each other but also take care of the job that the other isn’t good at

A thing I had to think about with this is Makoto’s motivation (aside from despair) would probably be that he dislikes the fact that people who are ordinary are seen as lesser and worthless. Not like Hajime where he wants to be part of the elite, he personally likes being super average, but that he wants to bring the elite “down” to the level of the ordinary people like him and like Taka. I hope that makes sense since I’m bad at explaining things ^^”
