Work Text:
Andy pouted as he flopped down on the sand. They had been at the beach all day, soaking up the sun. Now he was ready for a nap. "I'm tired, I'm hungry, and I want to go home. I'm gonna drive myself home right now if we don't leave soon. "
Ann laughed. "Andy, you can't even drive!'"
"And you can't swim but that doesn't change the fact we are at the beach."
Ann opened her mouth to respond but closed it realizing he was right. "That's what I thought," Andy said.
"Why don't you build a sand castle with me? I'm sure it would make you feel better."
"No."
"Come on Andy, it'll be so much fun!"
"Sand castle building is for babies." Baby whipped her head around and narrowed her eyes at Andy. "No offense Baby."
"Either you build this sand castle with me or I'll make you hang out with the Twin Pennies."
The Twin Pennies menacingly emerged from the sand. "Yes Andy," they said in unison. "Come play with us."
"Nope, nope, nope, I'm building a sand castle with Ann."
The Twin Pennies burrowed back into the sand.
"Those things freak me out," Andy said once they were out of sight.
Ann looked Andy straight in the eyes disappointed. "You know they can still hear you, right?"
From the sand pile, the Twin Pennies peaked out again. Only their unblinking eyes could be seen. They looked straight into Andy's metaphorical soul. It scared him. It scared him a lot.
From the edge of the water, Wolf began to saunter over. "Hey, guys- WHAT THE DISNEY 2022 MICKEY AND MINNIE LIMITED EDITION VALENTINE'S DAY DOLL SET NEW BOX IS THAT?" Upon seeing the eyes of the Twin Pennies, Wolf fell to the ground with a horrifying howl. The Twin Pennies were unfazed yet still took pity on the Wolf and retreated to their sandy anode.
"That's the Twin Pennies. They're very nice once you get to know them!" Ann said with a smile.
Wolf furiously shook his head as he stood up. "I don't want to get to know them. I don't want anything to do with them. They give me the heebie-jeebies." He wiped the sand off of himself with a huff.
"Okay, why don't we have a nice picnic to take our minds off of everything?" Ann suggested.
The others nodded. They were all very hungry and eager to forget the horrors that the twin dolls bestowed upon them.
"TIME TO EAT!" Ann yelled.
"What are we eating?" Wolf asked, smooshing his face close to the picnic basket. He was a very hungry wolf. Very hungry wolves need food and he was no exception.
"I made us some jam sandwiches! Oh, and I threw in a ham sandwich for you Wolf."
Wolf was a very happy (but still hungry) wolf. The others were also hungry as they came to the picnic basket. They sat in a circle together, though the General decided to stand. He claimed it was because 'a soldier always needs to be prepared for war.' He would never admit his joints would hurt too much if he sat on the sand.
Ann began to pass out the sandwiches, handing them to Andy, who handed them to Wolf, and so on.
"One for you," Wolf said as he handed out the sandwiches. "And one for you. One for- NO PLEASE NO NOT AGAIN."
The Twin Pennies sat next to him, staring at him. They held a sandwich that Wolf was still holding in their grubby hands. Wolf attempted to yank the sandwich away but it didn't work. The twins were too strong. They firmly grasped the sandwich. Wolf was very intimidated. Their eyes seemed to be screaming at Wolf to give them the sandwich. Wolf wasn't going to give in that easily.
"TAKE THIS!" Wolf room one paw off the sandwich and used it to chuck sand at the twins. They didn't even flinch.
"Wolf! Why would you do that? What a horrid thing to do to those poor dolls! Apologize immediately!" Ann chastised.
"But they-"
"No buts! Apologize now."
"Don't tell my soldier what to do!" General D told Ann. He then turned to the Wolf. "Wolf! Apologize!"
Wolf's eyes began to water. Hearing his idol tell him to apologize was enough to start the waterworks. "I'm sorry."
The Twin Pennies began to dance as the Wolf wept. "Wolf, Wolf, that was really bad. Your apologies are worse than your shoulder pads. Woah, woah."
Andy stood up and rolled up his sleeves. "You went too far Twin Pennies! Wolf is very sensitive about his lack of strong shoulders! It's not his fault he needs to use shoulder pads as a way to cope with society's expectations of him."
The Twin Pennies continued to dance. "Raggedy Andy, you better sit down. Otherwise, we will initiate Mission: Takedown. Woah, woah."
Andy froze in his tracks. "What's Mission: Takedown?"
Everyone shrugged except for Camel. "I saw them do it on that Babette once. She was never quite the same after that."
"Is that why I can't understand her?" Wolf asked, wiping away his tears.
"No that's just because she has a really strong accent," Camel replied.
"Oh... Well, what happened?"
"I can't say very much but some say it was Babette's Scary Night." Camel looked directly at you, the reader, as if he was telling a funny joke. It most certainly was not funny.
Ann awkwardly held onto her sandwich as Andy sat down. "Well, why don't we just eat now?"
Everyone began munching on the sandwich. Wolf could hardly eat out of fear of the twins sitting next to him. Even the ham couldn't comfort him now.
Once they had finished eating, Ann and Andy began to build a sand castle together. Wolf was off splashing in the water, trying to convince the General to get in the water too. There was no way the General would enter the water with his full uniform. Andy still thought it was amusing to watch when he caught glimpses of it.
It was all fun and games until Wolf started to scream. "THEY BIT ME! THE TINY DOLLS BIT ME!"
Wolf flailed out of the water dramatically holding his leg.
The General marched towards the running Wolf. "Man up soldier! A little doll can't hurt you!"
The Twin Pennies emerged from the sand and bit the General. He cursed the dolls as he shook them off of his legs.
"That must be phase 1 of Mission: Takedown." Camel mused.
Andy threw his hands up. "I sat down though!"
"You must have not sat down fast enough."
The General went over to Ann, his face contorted in anger. "That's it! I'm leaving."
"Yeah, me too," Wolf said, copying the General's irritated walk.
Ann frowned. "Well, I guess that concludes our day at the beach..."
"Cheer up Ann." Andy patted Ann on her shoulder. "It could always be worse. The Twin Pennies could have moved on to phase 2 of their plan."
A faint scream could be heard. Ann and Andy turned around. Both the General and Wolf had fallen victim to the Twin Pennies' trip wire. Phase 2 was complete.
