Work Text:
Emily had been busy, between tests and rehearsal, presentations and studying, songwriting and her crush on the librarian intern...
It was on a pleasant Wednesay, in the afternoon, when Emily texted her Bellas.
“How do I tell a girl I like her?”
“I knew you were gay, legacy!” – Amy was the first to reply, right away.
“Send her flowers”- Chloe had suggested, in an audio message, and there was Beca on the background - “Buy her coffee and leave her alone!”
“Take her out to eat...” – Stacie smiled, in a vídeo – “...and eat her out”
“Watch a movie with a make out scene, she’ll take the hint” – CR wrote.
Among good and teribble options, Emily found herself staring at her crush.
Ana Shephard was British, had shoulder length brown hair, a brethtaking grin, and played piano on the music room when she thought nobody was around.
Every Wednesday Emily would go the music room, in the library, to work on her songwriting, and on one of those rainy days she was late. That was when she met Anna.
“You might be Junk” – that British accent charming as heaven.
“You can call me Emily!”
“Alright, Emily, I’m Anna” – a side smile – “and these are the piano keys. We keep it locked...” – and as Anna spoke Emily heard nothing. I mean, she did hear her own heartbeat, she heard birds and angels singing, and her own brain yelling . Caught in a storm of wild thoughts Emily felt her throat dry and herself gasp out a randomly seleted thought.
“I had lice when I was nine”
“I... I’m sorry, what?” – was Anna’s reply, and Emily surely wanted to slap herself, so she just smiled and took the keys.
Took her a couple weeks after that, and a small number of accidental bumps into Anna around the campus, for Emily to understand it was a crush, better yet, to accept it.
She had talked to only her mother about the matter, on a holiday back at home, and Mrs. Junk was there for her child, no matter what - “Emily, you’re my most precious thing in the entire world, and I love you, and I will always support you” – she had said, in a tight hug. Her mother’s words helped Emily accept her feelings, accept herself.
Back to this pleasent Wednesday, she found herself drumming her notebook with a pen. Her thoughts everywhere, and in a glimpse it was 7pm, and Emily nearly jumped at the realization. The music room was supposed to closed, but it wasn’t, because she was still there. That meant Anna was still there, but her shift was supposed to end by 5pm, which meant Emily had kept her there for 2 hour longer.
With that in mind, Emily rushed to gather her things and walk out. She met Anna at the reception, playing on her phone.
“I’m so sorry!” – she started – “I lost track of time!”
But there was not one small sign of anger on Anna’s face – “It’s fine” – she spoke, putting her phone down – “You looked really concentrated, I didn’t want to break that”
Emily apologised over and over - “I’m sorry, really sorry, Anna!”
“It’s ok, really” – Anna spoke, simply, getting her own backbag from behind the table.
When she smiled, reassuring Emily that it was not a problem at all, that was when Emily felt her heart beat on her stomach.
“I... Do you...” – she started, forcing her eyes closed and open again, confidence burning the back of her neck – “...wanna grab something to eat? I mean, I kept you here until now, we could walk, talk, eat something...”
Anna opened her mouth to speak, but only blinked, once, twice, before finally speaking.
“I can’t, I have...” – and she was interrupted by a young man, calling out for her as he approached the two ladies.
“Anna! Come on, we’re late”
Emily thought they seemed close, and the way he pulled at Anna’s sleeve made her stomach feel heavy. Jealously.
“We’re not that late, Jhon!” – Anna replied, her eyes leaving Emily’s for just a second, to look at her friend with a light frown. She looked back at Emily with a softer expression that Emily thought looked like an apology, so she spoke first.
“Okay!” – it went out too high pitched for her own taste – “I’ll just get going and uh... see you next week” –she spoke fast, and turned to leave, fast steps towards the door. At that moment, while Emily felt Anna’s eyes on her, she just wanted a hole to open on the floor so that she could crawl in and end those agonizing feelings. Jealousy, fear, regret, fear... She was determined to leave the country by walking right at that moment and never go back to the library again, when Anna called out before she was out of the building.
“9pm!” – Anna nearly shouted, and Emily turned around to look at her with confused wide eyes, lips parted as if she had forgotten what breathing felt like – “I’ll be free by 9pm”
Emily felt her stomach heavy again, but it a good way. Actually the best of ways. If you have ever fallen in love, you know what I’m talking about. She could only stutter – “Uh...wh...I...”
Anna had it all covered, and as Emily could not formulate a single word, she spoke – “Meet me at the theater by 9pm, we can walk, talk, eat something...and I’ll get you to your dorm before midnight”
Her words were sure and Emily could only nod - “We... that’s great”
Walking outside, she heard Anna’s friend’s voice, “Whay did I miss?”, and Anna’s short reply, “Shut up”.

By 8:55pm Emily was at the theater, and the recepcionist let her in – “Just don’t make any noise, they’re rehearsing”.
Emily heard music, “no such thing as a hollywood ending” or something like that along the lyrics. She got there right on time to see the group sat in a circle on the stage.
“I guess that’s it for today” – she heard Jhon say, and couldn’t help a grin upon seeing Anna. That also distracted enough for her to bump into the seats, bringing the group’s attention to herself.
“Emily¹” – Anna called, half surprised.
“Hi...” – Emily tried, remembering she had been advised not to disturb, but none of the people on the stage seemed mad. On the contrary, to say that they were amused by her presence – and Anna’s aknowledgement of it – would be way too simple.
“I’ll just...” – Anna started – “...I’ll be right back, I’ll just get my bag” – Anna rushed.
Emily nodded, smiling, waving at the other... actors? They were actor, right?
Anna was back in a minute, and walked away taking Emily by the hand, waving her colleages goodbye pretending not to have noticed their giggling.

They settled for pizza and talked about nearly everything. Emily could watch Anna for hours, and pretend to be looking at her half eaten slice of pizza when caught staring, while Anna spoke and listened enthusiasticaly.
“So, you’re in a musical, is that your major? You’re majoring in Drama?” – Emily brought up, and Anna wrickled her nose.
“Not really” – she replied – “It was Jhon’s idea. I’m helping with the songs for extra credits, but yeah... I actually do study music”
Emily nodded, taking in the new information. She knew Anna played the piano, but didn’t know she was actually majoring in Music. That reminded her of a very importante information she needed, so she gave it a chance.
“So, Jhon is...” – Emily tried to sound casual.
“A friend” – Anna replied, a bit too fast. Emily nodded – “He studies art, and HE is working on a musical drama, and I play the piano, so I’m helping...”
There was a small sparkle on Emily’s eyes as the new information sank in.
They talked about school, movies, family, the Bellas, John’s musical...
They didn’t notice time running, and had to leave the pizza place only because it was closing. It was 11:45pm.
“I promissed you’d be back by middnight” – Anna told Emily as they walked to Anna’s motorcycle, a dark green scooter, side by side, hands touching ocasionally.
Emily wrinckled her nose – “Break that one”.
As they reached the vehicle, Anna carefully put a helmet on Emily’s head - “I’m not one to break my promisses, Junk” – Anna replied, half smiling, and Emily pouted – “But we could do it again” – and Emily grinned.
They were by the Bella’s house in 20 minutes, and Anna walked Emily to the door.
“So...” – Emily started, fighting hard to hold a grin – “I’ll see you next week, at the library”
“Or we could do it tomorrow” – Anna suggested.
Emily’s (not) smile faded – “I can’t, we rehearse...”
Anna nodded, just a tiny bit too sad.
“But you could come see us, if you’d like” – Emily offered, and that was the first time Anna felt her hands sweat on chilly air.
Their first hug was clumsy.

Wathcing the Bellas rehearse was... intriguing. Anna had not been introduced to any of them properly, just long distance waving and catching names quickly. Trying not to disturb their practice, she watched the Bellas through their songs. All good until Emily got distracted and tripped, faling on her butt.
“Oh my god!” – Beca called out – “Emily, are you ok?”
On the bleachers, Anna stood up. She ran to Emily, fast as a lighting – “Make room, I’m a first aider! Emily!”
Seeing Emily sat on the floor, a hand on her lower back, Anna was quickly kneeling by her side – “Where does it hurt? Don’t move too fast”
“I’m okay” – Emily managed, frowning – “It’s was just too sudden, I guess”
“Does anything hurt?” – Anna placed a hand on Emily’s shoulder, which Emily grabbed instantly, giving it a reasuring squeeze.
“I’m fine, really” – she forced herself up, not letting go of Anna’s hand, so Anna just followed.
Amy looked at Lily, who looked at Cinthia Rosa, who looked at Flo, who looked at Stacie, who looked at Ashley, who looked at Jessica, who looked at Chloe, who looked at Beca. Emyle had not let go of Annas’s hand.
“So... girls, that’s it for today” – Beca told them, and the Bellas nodded, getting the hint.
“Emily , you probably need a massage, and your friend is a first-aider” – Chloe added, to which Emily closed her eyes, wishing Chloe had not just suggested Anna gave her butt a massage.
“Subtle...” – Anna let out in a small voice. Emily looked at her and saw a small smile, so Anna was not offended. Good, I guess.
“We’ll just get our stuff and get going” – Amy was the first to break the tension. Then in a minute al lhe Bellas were with their bags on their shoulders, giving Emily hugs and goodbyes. Anna watched without really knowing what was happening.
“What do I do?” – Emily whispered to Beca, in a hug that lasted too long.
“I have no idea, but good luck, I believe in you!” – was her response.
“What should I say?” – Emily whispered to Chloe.
“Be yourself, she’s just a person” – was her response, along with a wink.
Among good advice and terrible tips, Emily couldn’t find herself an answer. It was only when Cinthia Rose gave her a hug that she came back to her senses.
“CR, how do I tell a girl I like her?”
CR didn’t whisper back. She looked Emily in the eyes. The emphasis on “a girl” did it.
“Emily...” – she started, and her tone was enough to catch Emily’s full attention –“It doesn’t matter if it’s a guy or a girl. Love is love. If you like her, show her.”
“But...” – Emily took CR further from Anna’s ears – “... what if she doesn’t like me back?”
“If it was a guy, what would you do? What do you do when a guy’s not interested?” – they whispered as if it was not suspicious and Anna was not there.
“I don’t know, I never liked a guy enough to talk to him first” – was Emily’s reply, which sounded more like a realisation.
“Then move your gay ass and talk to her” – CR spoke, with a smile – “If she doesn’t want anything to do with you, I know a gay bar that offers the first drink on the house for dumped lesbians. Go!”
When the Bellas were out, Emily turned to Anna, who just stood with her hands in her jacket’s pockets.
“My butt doesn’t hurt anymore...” – she let out, and Anna laughed.
“So, no massage then? Too bad” – Anna spoke, and Emily blushed, letting out a nervous laughter.
Silence.
“Your friends are very nice” – Anna brokeit first, offering a hand to Emily, who took it trying to ignore how sweaty Anna’s hands were.
“They’re the best” – she smiled.
“Nice...” – Anna looked at her, throwing their hands backand forth in the air, as they walked towards the practice room door.
Silence.
“Are you hungry?” – Emily broke it first.
“We could order in... watch a movie...” – Anna replied, their hands back and forth.
“Ok...” – Emily tried to sound casual, and failed. Her grin was way too wide not to be noticed, and Anna did notice it.
They stood by the door, really close.
Anna’s eyes went from Emily’s eyes to her lips, and that was it, Emily knew what was about to happen. They leaned in, lips almost touching, when Anna’s phone rang loudly.
Anna rolled her eyes, and picked it up with na annoyed voice. Emily almost laughed.
“What is it?” – Anna spoke on the phone – “Right now?! Ok... I’ll be there” – and the calll ended.
Anna gave Emily an apologetic look, and Emily rubbed her shoulder – “It’s ok...” – she spoke – “we can do it any other time”, but Anna felt defeated.
“John need a hand, an actress got a cold and he needs someone to sing her lines”
“Go save the day” – Emily joked, and Anna walkd out the door, cursing at the floor.
It happened fast. Anna walked out, Emily looked at the ground, and Anna walked back in, pulling Emily for a kiss. Their lips moved with desire.
Emily was caught off guard, so it took her a second to process and place her arms around Anna’s neck.
When they parted, Anna spoke, and Emily just nodded.
“Dinner and a movie, tonight, my place. Bring ice cream” – she spoke in one sentence – “It’s a date” – and left after giving Emily another grin and a kiss on the lips.
Emily could only watch, not knowing what hit her. Oh, right, it was Anna Shepherd.
X
That night Emily found out Anna was indeed a great kisser. Emily had kissed before, of course, but this was beyond words.
They did not pay that much attention to the movie, they were more interested on kissing, touching, biting... oh, biting. Emily found Anna to be great at biting, and Anna found Emily to be great to bite.
Emily felt a moan slide out her throat when Anna, on top of her, bit her neck, just the right amount of strengh to give pleasure without hurting – “Anna...” – she moaned, pulling Anna’s hair as encouragement. It made Anna hiss and bite again.
That was when Emily switched positions.
She was now straddling Anna on the couch, and it felt oh so good.
“Oh my...” – Anna looked up at Emily, her lips parted for breathing, grinning – “You’re a top!”
Emily let out a grin herself – “Let’s find out” – she spoke, before proceding to kiss Anna on the lips while running her hands on Anna’s stomach and up her bra.
Turned out Emily didn’t need to use her friends’ advices, well, Anna took the first step, but those advices could be put to good use. Among good and bad tips, maybe Emily would follow Stacie’s first.
