The Story of a Beast and her frogs

Summary:

Anne Boonchuy is still getting used to things in this world and so her adopted family/frogs she's crashing with are slowly discovering what kind of beast Anne is.

Watch as we see how they cope with this new arrangement.

Notes:

First story is based off of a Prompt from /co/ to quote "It turns out Sprig has been putting the leaves and twigs in Anne's hair the whole time to help her fit in, or because he just assumed she was forgetting to do so since he met her wearing them. "

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Late Night discussions.

Chapter Text

“Dude, What are you doing?” was the first words Anne said as she felt something touching her hair. It had to be past midnight. Sometime in the early hours of the morning.

Sprig was kneeling beside Anne. He had been stopped from whatever actions he was doing. he was holding a bunch of leaves and twigs in one hand and placing them in her hair with the other.

“Em, Just replacing the twigs and leaves in your hair.”

Anne looked at him and sighed. To be honest this was possibly the least weird thing that could have happened to her. She still hadn't ruled out that she was going to be found dead in the morning her skin being used for the old frogs' belt.

She had only known Sprig for a day and a half now and discovering that the young frog was placing leaves and twigs in her hair was one of the more normal things that happened to her.

“Okay I'm just going to ask. Why?”

“Because you lost the ones you had in earlier.”

“Eh dude. I don't usually have leaves and twig's in my hair.”

“Really?”

“Nope.”

“But that's what you were like in the wild. Heck, you had them in your hair or about a day afterward when you got back.”

“Sorry nope,” she said hiding her embarrassment that she hadn't cleaned her hair in a while. In her defense, she hadn't bathed in a week before last night. She almost cried in joy when she discovered the Plantars had a bathroom.

“Oh, I thought it was some sort of cultural thing.”

“You thought my culture involved wearing leaves in my hair?”

“Well Yeah, I mean it's like the one shoe thing”

Anne looked at the frog boy like he had grown a second head.

“Sprig, I do have another shoe, I just lost it.”

“Ohhh," a realization dawning upon him "That makes sense.”

Anne laughed “You are one weird frog boy.”

“And your a strange Hideous beast girl.”

“Ha. You know with an attitude like that I might just eat you.”

“You wouldn't.”

She looked at him smiling, “Wouldn't I?”

Sprig leaned in closer with a smile that dared her to try, “No you wouldn't,” he said calling her bluff.

Anne tried to keep up the dangerous smile but found Sprig's attempt to be tough to funny. She started giggling at first which became a snort and then turned into a full-on belly laugh. “Okay fine I won't eat you.”

“Thank you.”

“Your far to unappetizing.”

“Hey, I am a sweet treat.”

“Yeah sure you are.”

The two started laughing until they both stopped.

“Hey Anne,” said Sprig breaking the silence, “What were you home like?”

“My home,” Anne paused a little what to tell him “It was nice, a normal house. It's near to our family restaurant. I loved my room, Though I hang around the basement," Anne looked around. Not that much had changed really " I mean all my stuff was there my teddy bear collection, My magazines, My games, I just kind of want to be back there.”

“Oh, sorry about that.” Said Sprig starting to regret asking her, he had forgotten how had it had been for her.

"Sorry, No offense, It's just... I miss my home, I'm stuck in a house where two of the people still think I'm going to eat them, the town seems to think I'm a monster and may still try to kill me, “ Tears started to well up in Anne's eyes, “I endangered the one person who cares for me in this world, My best friends are missing and could be dead, oh and my parents not only think I ditched them, and are now terrified over the fact that I'm missing or worse.”

Anne looked down. Things had gone wrong so fast, and while she now had a place to stay, She still had no way of getting home.

Was this a punishment from God? She never really believed in him but it might be. What for though, not being a good daughter, Being a terrible friend, For skipping school, for stealing, she closed her eyes. It was all so much, She was a terrible person. Maybe she deserved this. She couldn't stop crying now.

Anne felt two small arms wrap themselves around her chest. She opened her eyes to see that Sprig was hugging her. Burying his head in her shoulder.

“It's okay Anne, We'll find them, and we're going to get you home I promise.”

Anne sniffed. She didn't know what she had done wrong, but she knew that there was at least something that had gone right, She had befriended an odd, weird, kind of gross, fun, Brave, and Kind frog boy who seemed to think she was worth it, she hugged him back.

“Thanks Sprig.” she said feeling a lot better for the first time since she had arrived in this world.

“Anytime Anne,” he responded letting her go “So you don't have acid spit?”

“Well I didn't say that” Said Anne who started to pool up some spit in her mouth, she fake spat towards Sprig which caused the frog boy to hide behind her school bag

Anne laughed. This world was weird and might just kill her, But there was one person who made it bearable.
