There was a reason why all of his badniks did not have lips nor control the shape of their mouths; Eggman literally could not fathom why a creature, free-willing or ordered, would smile at him.
And yet, Stone would do so. Again and again and again did he do so.

Or: Eggman sees his life flash before his eyes as he lies, dying. It was natural to have a grave realisation at this moment, since all the neurons fire in the brain, but as his brain fries, the images of Stone increasingly invades his thoughts.
