“From the top,” she barks, nails digging into her own arms as she takes control of the room.
This, she can do. She can run a rehearsal and prepare for a concert series and take care of her crew. She can dance and sing and attend costume fittings, chat with Bobby about travel logistics, make sure that Rumi drinks enough water and Zoey gets enough sleep. She can work, improve, keep moving, and she’ll happily do all of this sunup to sundown every day instead of even beginning to think about approaching the fact that, when she wasn’t looking, she went and fell in love with one of her best friends.
On the eve of the comeback tour, Mira faces off with her feelings for Rumi.

Rumi is begging and Mira had wanted to be just that, be together, up until five minutes ago – her and Zoey had talked about it in detail, how both of their heart were beating for two people, how easy it had been to fall in love with their leader, how they wanted to try and be more, once they had restored the Golden Honmoon.
But Rumi lied to them.
And Mira finds she doesn’t want her anymore, not right now.

Varang’s eyes finally snap open. Her body jolts, a sharp intake of breath hitching in her chest as adrenaline floods her system. But as she looks up into the fierce, glowing, yellow embers of Neytiri’s eyes, the panic vanishes. It’s replaced by calm.
“Where is Jake Sully?” Neytiri demands.
Varang doesn’t flinch against the stone. A low hum starts in her chest, a sound close to a purr. “Ah... the wife,” she murmurs. “Loyal to her man.”
“Speak, or I cut,” Neytiri hisses, the blade indenting the skin.

The walls suddenly cave in from all sides, until everything she can see in her blurry vision is Rumi, unfairly beautiful in the dimly lit room. Patterns and all.
Tunnel. Her mind growls. Restless and unsure. Swelling until it feels too big to be submerged anymore. You’re my tunnel.

"Mira! Sorry, I know I'm normally a little earlier, but someone-" Rumi said as she pulled in her friend by the wrist, "Was dragging his feet."
Mira looked at the new person. He was… handsome, she supposed, with his defined jaw and soft features and neatly parted hair. He gave her a friendly wave, and Mira waved back.
"This is Jinu, my boyfriend," Rumi continued.
Oh.
Mira had a crush on Rumi the entire time she'd been her dance instructor. She had a handle on it—she was good at controlling her emotions—until Rumi brought her boyfriend to class.

For one briefly catastrophic moment, Mira suddenly understood why “sexy zookeeper” had been on that Halloween costume list Zoey’d scrounged up last year. Then she immediately shut that thought down before it could do any permanent damage.

Mira understood bees—and Zoey, sometimes. Other people? Not so much. She had only agreed to give a conservation talk to raise awareness, not spend the whole day distracted by the zoo's resident butterfly keeper.
