The words landed behind him like a drop of cold water down his spine. Eddie froze mid-step, shoulders locking tight. The heat crawled up the back of his neck again, mortifying and immediate.
“You were moving,” Venom went on, voice steady, analytical, almost gentle in his matter-of-fact tone. It sounded like he was logging data, as if Eddie’s humiliation was just another entry in some strange, private report.
Eddie exhaled sharply through his nose, the sound halfway between a sigh and a growl, and forced himself to move again. “Vee, I don’t really want to get into this right—”
“And you said my name.”

"How stupid we talking? 'I drove my car into the lake' stupid or 'I said I'd come to the potluck but I have no food' stupid?"
Angela laughs and she elbows him. "I can at least say my car is safe in the parking lot," she mumbles. "No, more like 'I told the people at my class reunion I'm in a really great relationship with a guy and they all want me to bring him and if I say he can't go they're all gonna realize I'm lying.' It's truly some sitcom shit."
