John wakes up A— first.
“Who are you?” is the first thing he says.
It hurts. As much as John had prepared himself for this eventuality, as much as he had hoped and feared that their memories would not return, as necessary as it is that A— forgets everything — it still hurts, to be forgotten.
“I’m John,” John says gently.
“John,” A— repeats dumbly. “John.”
And then he collapses into John’s arms and bursts into tears in a way that John has never seen, not even at the end of the world. He’s bawling, weeping, shouting, and screaming, all incoherent sounds of grief. He wails like a newborn child, not knowing why he weeps, only that he must.
“John,” A— moans mournfully as he clings to John like a lifeline. “John. John. Where is M—? Where is my brother?”

Daniel is dying, and Armand can’t save him any more than he can save himself. He will not turn Daniel into the monster he is, he will not put an end to his misery by killing him gently, he will not sit beside him to watch him die. Armand is, at heart, a selfish creature.
Perhaps it’s that selfishness what makes him fall to his kneel before Louis, his companion, his victim, and beg him to turn the boy.

Armand lets out a small sigh. So small Daniel almost misses it. “There is so much you don’t know. I would not expect you to understand.” His expression changes, “And yet…”
Daniel cocks a brow. “Yet what?”
The light catches on Armand’s alarmingly bright eyes. “Even after everything… I am surprised to see your desire for me is still strong.”
Daniel's stomach turns. Flips over so furiously he's left momentarily speechless. And then, he's bolting up from his chair, and ignores the woozy rush it deploys to his head.
“My desire for you?” he bites out, squaring up to hide his unease. “You’re fucking kidding me, right?”
Armand’s mouth, which has been the source of confusion on more than one occasion, is mostly a straight line, only a slight curl at its corner.
“I can assure you, I am not.”
