Together, they make easy work of any terrain, and by nightfall, they've already gone further than the initial journey to Ives' cave. They set up shelter on a snow-capped outcrop, heat some Slauson-filled stew over a fire and go to sleep without much affair. Boyd wakes before Ives. The murderer's hair is disheveled, and his eyelashes fan out against his cheek. It occurs to him that he could end it all here, kill Ives while he sleeps, vulnerable and unguarded. But–
He has accepted the life he is cursed to live. But he’s not so sure he can accept living it alone.
