The last time Rhaenyra had seen him was at her fifth birthday party. He had broken her little-girl heart that day. He was her favorite uncle—perhaps her favorite person besides her mother—and he was leaving the country for a very long time. For the past twenty-five years, she had barely any news of his whereabouts He didn’t call, only sent her a piece of jewelry and a card every year for her birthday. So it was more than a little strange that he had suddenly relocated to King’s Landing. Even stranger was her reaction the moment she laid eyes on him.

Alina follows Karina’s gaze to the empty chair in between them, a small tea set settled in front of the chair that mirrors her own. She should be too old for imaginary friends, but she supposes the move was stressful, so this could be how she’s dealing with such a change.
“Okay,” Alina resigns. “Does Sasha want me to stay?”

“Highest of praises!” Dr. Kaminsky throws one hand over his heart. “We’ll have to set it aside to tempt you into lingering long enough to finish it. Maybe you’ll actually stay for cake! Wouldn’t that be a scandal!” He throws his head back and laughs before taking a drink from his flute.
“Indeed! Perhaps I will.” Dr. Morozov brings his wine to his lips, and Alina catches his darting glance at her as he smiles into the glass. “Perhaps I will.”
TL;DR: Alina is the sole graduate student invited to the faculty Christmas party, and what better gift to receive than the chance to bone your otherwise off-limits crush?
