Summary
To tell Orson he could not have a thing was to make him want it. He had been told he wasn't clever enough to gain admission into the Republic Futures Program, and yet he graduated with high honors; he had been told that his appalling lack of connections meant he would get no further than an insignificant construction firm, yet here he was, barely thirty-three and already a decorated commander in the Corps of Engineers. And though he had been told he was far too unserious to accomplish anything, in the early hours of the morning—sweaty from nocturnal carousing and sleeping off cheap tonics—Orson dreamed of edifices beyond the imagination of any engineer on Coruscant.
No one told Orson he could not have the copper-haired woman in the spun silk Chandrilan gown, but it was clear enough from the moment he laid eyes on her that she was not for him.
Therefore: he made up his mind to have her.
