Summary
Shane breathes in deep, a contented little sigh, and then pauses for another long time. Just slightly tensed, like he’s preparing himself for something, but Ilya doesn’t really have the chance to worry before he says, “I had…a good time tonight.”
“Mm, was good night,” Ilya murmurs. Kisses hair, kisses eyebrow. “Nice dinner, nice weather.”
“Yeah, it was nice,” Shane murmurs. He sighs, clears his throat. “Thank you for such a nice first date.”
Ilya mouths first date to himself, mind running to figure out what that could mean in this context.
Then Shane shifts and says, “I wasn’t sure what to expect when you asked me out.”
Ah.Shane decides to play a game. Ilya is exactly where he wants to be.

Summary
Shane was a tidy, meticulous person, careful in every way.
He only got like this with Rozanov. He couldn’t explain it, would never be able to even if threatened, but maybe it didn’t matter. Maybe it was just a fact of life. Water was wet, the sky was blue, Shane Hollander wanted Ilya Rozanov to drunkenly fuck him without a condom.
“Of course I want to,” Rozanov rasped. “Stupid idea, though.”
“Everything we do is stupid."
When the next day arrived, he could languish in some sort of regret. But what was Shane supposed to do? He had a brain swamped with alcohol, and Rozanov looked edible. Of course they were going home together.

Summary
No serious hockey fan or sports commentator worth their salt would have considered record-breaking Boston superstar Ilya Rozanov to be Shane Hollander’s rival exactly, but sleeping with a man who had a specific offense-related vendetta against him and a wrist shot like a jet engine to back it up was probably ill-advised just the same.
Or, Shane is a goalie. Ilya can’t score.

Summary
The question isn’t what Ilya would do to protect that love, but instead what wouldn’t Ilya do to protect that love? Ilya would do bad, bad things for Shane Hollander, in many different regards. Ilya would also undoubtedly wither away and out of existence, if he ever did something that ended up scaring Shane away from him permanently.
All of these questions are pointless. There’s only one, actual question that needs to be asked: is it better to speak or to die?
Ilya would argue in favor of death, every time.
Three months after the incident and nothing has changed. Ilya is charged with taking care of Shane after his wisdom teeth are taken out. It goes about as well as you’d expect.
