Summary
After Eleven dies, Mike Wheeler has no name for what he feels toward Will Byers, so he does the only thing he knows: he holds on too tight.
Same bed every night, his mouth on every part of Will except the one that would make it true. Will keeps asking what they are. Mike keeps not answering.
It takes a paint-stained studio and a fight neither of them walks away from whole for the world to finally go quiet. Will stops hearing that day.
Two thousand miles apart, there's no clean version of this. Will is learning that leaving isn't the same as dying. Mike is learning that some things you break stay broken, and loving harder was never the fix.

Summary
Mike grins so widely that he displays each one of his baby teeth. "Open it," he says. "It's a card. I made it for you."
When Will gingerly peels the birthday card open, Mike’s uneven handwriting is displayed across the page.
The p’s in happy are backwards, the y wobbly and curled at the end, and the k in Mike is also flipped the wrong way. The word birthday is etched in their kindergarten teacher’s steady print, and it seems like she'd also added the punctuation for him.
