They hosted parties every fourth, and it was only once Bradley started going to schools with fewer military brats that he learns his uncle's parties weren’t like his friends. His other friends talk about the beach, or carnivals, or pools, and always, they talk about fireworks.

    Summary

Learning everything about ejections is one of the first lessons in flight training. From day one, all cadets are made aware of the significant risks involved in ejecting from a fighter jet. Everyone knows that ejection is the last resort, the final option a pilot can turn to when their jet is no longer recoverable. Pulling the handles is the toughest and quickest decision a fighter pilot may have to make in their entire career. Once the handles are pulled, the body is subjected to about 25 Gs of force as the ejection seat catapults the pilot into the air, placing immense strain on the body.

Or: three times Maverick had to eject

“You said you need a pilot, ma’am? Captain Pete Mitchell, United States Navy. I’ve been an aviator for 35 years.”

She can feel her eyes watering up in relief. Thank you, God, she sends heavenward, into the clouds even higher than their cruising altitude.

    “Can you fly an A320?”

Captain Mitchell smiles at her and, good lord, he really is a miracle.

“Ma’am, if it has wings, I can fly it,” he winks and adds, “Hell, I can probably manage even if it doesn’t.”

Or; Maverick's red-eye flight home to San Diego is more eventful than he might have hoped.
