Drake looked frustrated and flustered, shoulders hunched, fingers clenched in the knees of his pants, face burning crimson, teeth grit and brow furrowed. “You don’t understand,” he insisted. “It’s not about being alone or… being strong. It’s about you being the one in that position and me not being there to help.”
He sounded so stressed, and frankly Coby had no idea what to say to help. It didn’t quite make sense that Drake would be so worried about that. The man who was insisting that Coby didn’t have to take care of him was having a crisis because he couldn’t take care of Coby.
Somehow that just made Coby worry about Drake. If anyone was kind hearted and didn’t deserve to be in horrific situations, it was Drake. He was such a good person, but he was presenting himself as a pirate ruthless enough to be placed in Kaido’s top fighters. How was that not devastating? How was that fair at all? It was always the good people willing to open themselves to unbelievable pain for others.
