Ming Fan was currently scurrying around, punishing anyone who suggested anything untoward was possibly happening. This mostly meant people waited to gossip until he was gone. The leading theory was that the woman was from one of the brothels Shizun was rumored to have frequented in the past. Luo Binghe had never seen any evidence that this rumor was true (he was actually concerned that Shizun didn’t know what sex was), so he’d dismissed the claims as slander.

    Then a woman had prostrated herself at the bottom of the stairs of Cang Qiong and begged that a message be delivered to all on the mountain. It was urgent, she said. She could not say more at this time, but lives depended on the right person hearing these words.

    “What is the message?” a disciple had asked.

    The woman raised her head. “Beyonce,” she had said clearly. “Internet. The general concept of astronauts.”
