“Are you okay?” a voice like a distant dream asked, water sloshing around them. Katsuki realised only then that the unpleasant feeling on his lower body was caused by his pants being completely soaked in. “It would’ve been bad if you’d hit your head,” the familiar voice continued.
Katsuki raised his eyes from his soaked lap to the hand offered to him, and then to the face that had been carved on his heart for the past decade.
Four-year-old Izuku gasped, “Kacchan! You got so big!” he hopped from foot to foot, splashing water everywhere. “Is that your hero costume? Are those grenade hands? That’s so cool!”

Chan doesn’t know what’s happening now. He’s too scared to ask, too scared to fuck this up, too scared that he and Felix are on different pages and this means something wholly different to Chan than it does to him. Even the words that have just spilled from Felix’s beautiful lips sound too good to be true, they sound like Chan is a step closer to finding out that this is just a cruel prank.

Izuku, of all people, should not be allowed to lie on top of him. He’s not the only one who saw Kacchan dead. He wasn’t even there when it happened; he arrived in the aftermath, saw Best Jeanist and Edgeshot stitching him back up, saw that they were beginning to lose hope, saw Kacchan lying there. On the ground. Lifeless.
Lifeless.
It was like Izuku himself had been the one cut straight through the heart.
He doesn’t know how he would have carried on after the war if Kacchan hadn’t made it through with him.
