But her feet won’t move. She doesn’t want to go back home because tomorrow she will have to meet the person she will be planning her wedding with. First comes marriage, and then all the dreadful things that come after it. All the duties a wife is expected to carry out.
She shudders. I'm sorry, Kris.
“No,” she murmurs, taking Susie’s hand. “I want to.”
Desperate for freedom, Noelle decides to flee from her responsibilities as princess — and accidentally finds herself dragging along two others for the ride.

Susie cares about Noelle, stupid and weird as that may seem. She barely talks to Noelle, but she cares a lot. Noelle is the only person here who’s been nice to her, seen her as something beyond a simpleton and a bully. She wants Noelle to be happy.
So, since she obviously can't convince Noelle to dump Kris's ass and find literally anyone else, she may as well get Kris to step the fuck up.
Susie has come under the impression that Kris and Noelle are dating.

Kris puffs out a breath of air and leans forward precariously. "You'll catch me," they say.
Susie practically guffaws up at them. "Like hell I will!" She drops the pen and bends her knees, bringing her arms up halfway in front of her. An interesting pose for someone who has decided to not catch them, Kris thinks.

She thinks Alphys lets her get away with it. Staring into nothing, scribbling nonsense. Just like she lets Kris sleep through class, or pretends not to notice how quickly her chalk supply dwindles. Noelle maybe feels a little bad about it, most days. Like she's taking advantage of something she shouldn't.
But on days where her eyes glaze over at the sight of words on a chalk board, sounds fuzzy and far away, she has little room for feelings like that. Her hand moves, and her eyes wander. Always up, to somewhere else. Someone else.

Susie is halfway down the Dreemurr residents' driveway when she hears a distinct thunk come from behind her. She jumps, breath caught, as her hands instinctively clench into fists. She's not sure what she expects when she whips her head around, but it's certainly not Kris. Who had not so gracefully faceplanted into the squishy wetness of the earth.
She blinks, looking at them, and then to the open window of their room. "Dude, you-"
Red eyes stare into her, half-exhausted, half manic in their energy.
"Help me break into the hospital?"
Kris plays the piano for Susie, and then Kris helps Susie play piano for herself.
