He thought he could stay like this forever, he wished he could. He felt a familiar pang of anxiety in his chest, anticipation of punishment for feeling happy and at ease. But then nothing happened, and the feeling passed."
The parasitic Silverwood tree has since been removed from Qifrey’s body, and he realizes just how comforting sleep can actually be, if he allows it.

Qifrey felt himself fighting tears once again, "But I want… I want-" his voice shook and he moved back to Olruggio's shoulder, then he lifted his head and pressed a kiss into his neck, and then another one, "I want…" then another.
Before he could keep going, Olruggio stopped him, gently pushing him away and resting a hand on the side of his face, "I know. I do too. But not right now, okay? Give it time."
ie; The curse may have been removed from his body, but it still preyed on his mind.

One night when they're young, Qifrey wakes to find Olly sleeping beside him. He watches, and feelings he doesn't understand brew within him.
"Qifrey’s own measured breaths are drawn carefully. His heart has begun once again to thunder in his ears, but not out of fear. This time, it’s something else, something that flows like warm honey in his veins, something that sets his skin alight and buzzes in his ears. He can’t tear his eyes away from Olruggio beside him, revelling, though he does not know why, in his secret observations. If the sleeping boy were to open his eyes at that moment, he knew that he would retreat, would cast his gaze away, as he so often does in daylight. But he doesn’t want to look away."

“Master! Master Qifrey! Coco’s hurt!”
Agott’s worried voice echoes from upstairs in the entry hall, carrying down the steps into the kitchen where Qifrey is working.
“I–I’m ok!” Coco hollers in reassurance, but Qifrey’s hands have already dropped the herbs they were binding without a second thought, leaving a scatter of tranquileaf sprigs strewn about the counter. The tone of Agott’s voice had sent a hot jolt of protective fear through his insides, his heart leaping to his throat, beating fast. He nearly trips over his skirt as he hustles up the stone steps into the living room.
.................................................Coco gets a nasty boo-boo, and Qifrey helps get her fixed up. Some big feelings come to the surface and they share an emotional moment.

Often, when Okuyasu thought he was asleep, he would take Josuke’s hand in his own. There were two mysteries here: one, how often did it happen? and two, why was it happening in the first place? He only knew it was happening at all because he’d awoken once to find Okuyasu asleep beside him, slunk over in a chair with his head resting on the bed. Their hands had been interlocked. Josuke had stared at their joined hands for a while as his post-sleep grogginess slowly disappeared. And then he’d woken up completely.
His eyes widened. Holy shit.
