“Afternoon, actually,” Beatrice says just because she knows it’ll make Ava smile. She gets her wish.
“C’mon,” Ava says, smoothly sliding from the bed to her feet, using their still joined hands to pull Beatrice with her. “You can tell me about traveling Europe while we eat”—she pauses dramatically; Beatrice braces herself for it—“I’m Hungary for some Turkey.”
Out of all things she could’ve said, this is what springs Beatrice into action, using her free hand to pull Ava by her waist until they’re chest to chest. She kisses the cheeky grin on Ava’s face; every time they do this, she thinks it’s better than the last.

Beatrice eventually goes back to the Alps to find herself; she finds her faith in Ava has never been misplaced.

The pain spiralled out from the centre of Max’s chest almost right to her fingertips. The grief—ever so present at the edges of her mind and heart—threatened to crush her completely as Safi looked at her like that. Like Max was the enemy. Like Max was actively harming her.
It was unbearable, seeing Safi’s dark amber eyes narrow at her in distrust and suspicion. To see that mouth—always so distracting—pulled firm in a line, not smiling for her, not smirking.
Max began to splinter and nearly unspool at the seams. She hated that she couldn’t tell Safi what she was doing, how the hell could she? How could she articulate what her life had become since that awful moment at the overlook?

Sin embargo, cuando me veía la cara se ablandaba, veía cómo la miraba y cómo buscaba su contacto con cada gesto, con cada palabra, y se preguntaba si era porque yo era así, esa persona que quería complacer a los demás por encima de todo, o si realmente lo que sentía por ella se equiparaba al amor tan visceral que ella sentía por mí desde hacía tanto tiempo.
