There is a house, surrounded by the forest, half-drowning in the dead brush cast off by the firs. It is still and dark, but as the shadows lengthen and the forest darkens, a light ignites in one of the windows. There is someone inside the house, but the man in the forest already knew that: he was here for a reason, after all. He has been hunting his prey for a very long time.

Wright knocks a fist against the doorframe, somewhat absent-mindedly. “I want lunch,” he says, finally. “The bus takes forever, give me a lift back into the city, will you?”
In which Klavier and Phoenix are smart enough to finally have that conversation about the past, and dumb enough to do it in two parking lots and a burger barn drive-thru. There's no accounting for taste.

“I don’t know,” Jon runs his free hand through his messy curls. When had his hair gotten so long? “It just popped into my head like a passing thought, like something I heard somewhere once. We haven’t known each other that long, Martin, I’m sure I just mixed you up with someone else at the Institute.”
“Like a memory?” Martin asks, quietly.
“Sure,” Jon says. “Like a memory.”

Tim found himself wondering about Dante. Wondering if maybe Dante had ever wanted to stop on his journey through hell. If maybe Dante ever didn’t want to continue, because the things he would see in the next circle might be too terrible for him to handle. He wondered if Dante thought maybe Heaven wasn’t worth all this. The promise of happiness paled in comparison to all the shit he’d have to slog through to get there.
