Summary
It was one thing to wish Decima had never happened. It was another to face the immediate situation: fingernails where there shouldn’t be; hair growing in thick and well from flash-frozen follicles; body mass coming back in a clean, steady trajectory.
Healing, Eiffel considered distantly, where there should have been no healing.
(Or: Hilbert and Eiffel claw towards an understanding.)

Summary
A hail of cosmic fire. Mighty earthquakes that levelled cities. The unearthly screaming of angels falling. A cloud formation that spelled out ‘F*** you'. Something — anything — to warn Lassiter of Spencer’s impending arrival would have been welcome. In retrospect, the fact that Spencer’s arrival in Santa Barbara had been precipitated by no more than the McCallum kidnapping case was frankly astonishing, decides Lassiter; because she’s been here a year and a half by now and he’s pretty sure she’s the harbinger of the end times. His end times, anyway.
(In which, over time, Lassiter learns a certain number of truths about one Seanne Spencer.)

Summary
A surgeon’s speciality is in the ability to cut clean and quick down to the bone; to make few marks, do no harm, pain only for the sake of healing.
No-one told Doctor Hilbert any of this, apparently.
