It is not for want of worship that Makalaurë acquiesces. It is not for some base need to supplicate himself before a Vala, no need to drop to his knees singing songs of praise and drenching himself in the waters of the ablution fountain as the Vanyar do.
He does not sing hymns to the Valar.
— So Makalaurë, ever his father’s son, warns them.
“Wonderful,” smiles one of Melkor’s votaries. “He had hoped not.”

Atya lifts the intestine from Maglor’s hands, placing it in a sparsely woven net. Maglor’s fingers curl. Atya tucks Maglor’s hair behind his ears. “Káno,” he says, “your lamb will make beautiful music. His memory will echo through everything you play.” Hot tears trickle down his cheeks, and Atya wipes them away.
Maglor, as the world crumbles.
