He looked Wangji in the eyes once more. The younger Lan hadn't seem yet to understand why exactly his brother was here. Xichen lingered in the last moment when his A-Zhan was looking at him with disappearing crumbles of trust, he tried to memorize every undertone of his light eyes, of almost non existent softness hidden now behind the crushing grief that seemed to grow through Lan Zhan's body, distorting his always perfect posture and gentle face. It may have been the last time Lan Xichen was able to look into these eyes. Before the horror of it all could make him pass out at Wangji's feet he raised a whip and let out inhuman wheeze instead of his usually melodic voice:

Wei Ying is still in Gusu, and Lan Wangji finds that every time he opens the Jingshi's doors at the end of the day, he expects Wei Ying to be there smiling at him and it's a terrible, terrible thing because he couldn't, shouldn't get used to it. Because surely, Wei Ying belongs to the freedom of the open road and not in a place with four thousand rules - Even if that place has Lan Wangji in it.
Wei Wuxian learns to settle in the Cloud Recesses, and Lan Wangji learns to settle the worries in his heart.
