When they discover the apartment they both want is only available to couples, there's only one thing to do—pretend to be in a relationship to hoodwink their landlady into renting them the one-bedroom apartment. Summary
Izzy only hopes the ace up Frenchie's sleeve isn't the only trick he's got left in the box. He's close enough to hear tone, but not close enough to hear words, and the sharpness is becoming increasingly clear.
But Frenchie's given him that smile—the same confident, easy, one that Blackbeard gave him a thousand times, before it got that manic edge to it—and assured Izzy it's going to be fine.

When Blackbeard thinks no-one is looking, he puts his hand to his head, presses his fingers into his temple.
And it makes sense, after what's happened. After what his crew did to him. Blows to the head linger. Sometimes they go bad long after the injury.

A flicker of lightning steals Ed’s answer right from under his tongue, followed only a few moments later by a long roll of thunder.
“Storm,” Ed says, tilting his head towards the small window. “They look great from here.”
“You hiked out here to watch the storm?”
Ed nods cautiously, unsure of Stede’s tone.
Stede turns to look out over the forest, mug gripped in both hands.
“How wonderful,” he breathes.
