Summary
“I’m still mad at you,” Buck says, when they’re finally forced together in the line. He’s standing so close to Eddie, breath a warm whisper in Eddie’s ear. Eddie shivers. “I’m—I’m so fucking mad, but. I—I can’t let you go back there alone. Either of you. I—I can’t lose you both to Texas again. I won’t.”
Oh. Oh.
Eddie’s eyes burn. He leans back, his shoulders brushing Buck’s chest—needing Buck’s touch something fierce. “You’re not,” Eddie promises, voice cracking. Christopher’s lost in his phone, but Eddie still keeps his voice soft—a secret, all for them. “Buck. You’re not. I was always going to come back home.”
To you, goes unsaid but Eddie feels it all the same. Buck feels it too, inhaling sharply.
“Okay,” Buck whispers. “Okay.”
“Okay,” Eddie agrees, and something takes root behind lungs—spreading its roots all over Eddie’s body, cradling his heart. Eddie doesn’t know what it is—just that warmth encompasses his soul, and that Buck’s here.
or, it takes eddie diaz seven days in texas to realise he hasn't been alone, not for the longest time.

Going on vacation is made infinitely more complicated by adding a toddler to the mix, but Eddie was the one who insisted that Buck not be left out of plans they'd made months ago—before the Firefighter Games—just because Buck had acquired a child since the plans had been made.
Or: the Buckley-Diaz family go on vacation.

Summary
“Hey,” Buck says, in the hospital room after it’s all over. “Just so you know, I’m in love with you.”
His voice is raspy, his smile a little self-deprecating. His eyes, when Eddie stares at him in surprise, are steady and blue. He doesn't sound like he’s blurting something out, or getting something off his chest, or confessing something he’s embarrassed of. He just sounds like he’s telling Eddie about the weather, something mundane. The sun is hot in the sky, they’re in New Mexico, and Buck is, apparently, in love with him.
Buck confesses to Eddie after the kidnapping. Eddie, in a fit of madness, accepts his confession. It'll be fine - just because Eddie isn't in love with Buck, doesn't mean he can't be his boyfriend.

Summary
“She said she wasn’t worried about us breaking up.”
Oh. Well. That was pretty definitively a thing that people said about partners who were together romantically.
“Say something,” Buck instructed.
“What?”
“Anything,” Buck said, his voice wavering on the word. Which was—it was weird, right? Why was Buck so shaken by a throwaway comment?
Or maybe the better question was why wasn’t Eddie? If either of them was going to get freaked out by the assumption that he was dating a man, it would make more sense for it to be Eddie, who was straight, and not Buck, who had, in fact, already dated men.
“Aren’t you going to be late for your shift?”
-----
Buck and Eddie get shaken up by a comment from Theo’s social worker, and then by a magnitude 7 earthquake; it turns out, some disasters are better than others.
