Zhang Hao had never heard anyone say that before. That they would give to him what he gave them. With his previous owner, who had generally been pleasant, there was always the unspoken default undergirding their dynamic: while she wasn’t a traditional owner, and she cared for him and he for her, they would never be equals.
Maybe, with Hanbin, they could be.Zhang Hao is a sumxu, a supposedly extinct Chinese cat hybrid, who’s always felt that his life—though constrained and sheltered—was a decent one, even if he is the last of his kind to still exist. Summary
