A few days ago, he came to her to ask for help – it was his present to Sae, but he was too small to do it alone – and now here he was, standing on a chair besides her, pouring flour and sugar in a bowl as she mixed the batter. Though he didn’t do much, Rin – who wasn’t allowed near the oven or the knife – took his job seriously, his tongue peeking out in concentration as he placed strawberries on the white cream his mother had decorated the cake with. The biggest one was placed on what would later be Sae’s slice.
“Do you think nii-chan will like it?”
“It’s from you so he’ll love it,” she replied while she wiped off the counter.
