Basically telling her would probably lead to disaster.

He ran his hand through his hair only to get his fingers caught in the tangled mess that was the Professor’s hair and sighed, “You know, Professor… when I said I wanted to get to know you better, this wasn’t really what I had in mind.”
When a spell cast during battle swaps Sylvain and Byleth's bodies, they are forced to work together to figure out how to reverse the effects of the spell. While they spend time together, they have the opportunity to get to know each other. When the philanderer with a mask in the form of a smile and the Professor with a mask in the form of calm and controlled are forced to let someone in... anything could happen.

“Can’t it wait for morning?” Sylvain gave a weaker smile, beginning another joke. “If you’re looking for a good time, you won’t find it here.”
“You’re right, I should’ve gone to another bar.”
The patrons boomed behind them, laughing, some dancing. A couple passed out on the chairs around them, but all that melted into background rabble under the intensity of his gaze. His palm pressed into her. He inched closer. She could almost smell the cologne he used, of cedarwood and cloves. His eyes darted down. They fluttered against her exposed skin and she wanted nothing more than to give him there go ahead, here and now. Assuming he’d even want to.

But coming to that place had only dug up even more mysteries. Why did Ike feel a certain yearning for this town, especially the lake? Why did he keep having dreams of suffocating and then being comforted by an unknown person?
Ike wasn't sure, but he felt like the story of the gods he heard from the townspeople was a clue to all the mysteries. And the one who could probably help him make sense of this clue was the person who had been with him ever since he came to town--Shu-- the guy no one in town knew, yet somehow Ike trusted with all his heart.

The sentimentality of celebrating three years since meeting Ike (and his other rather boisterous friends) sprinkled the Christmas days with something more … special, and what better way to celebrate than coax him away from work for even just a day, and into the Yuletide spirit? You’re well-aware of how hardworking the novelist was. While he’d been away from novel-writing and whatnot, the man had busied himself with a different form of storytelling: music. Seeing him holed away in his cozy corner made you think a part (larger than you’d admit to him aloud) of you missed him. The warmth of his embrace, his soothing voice, his random quips and anecdotes … a day without Ike Eveland was a day incomplete.
