Summary
“Well, I can’t stand yours!” Wylan snaps, lying through his teeth.
The good thing of being roommates with your ex, Wylan thinks, is that he doesn’t have to tearfully hold onto Jesper’s sweatshirts and hope that the scent still remains. He can just go into the laundry room and sniff Jesper’s fabric softener like a completely well-adjusted, reasonable and mature adult.
-
or, Jesper and Wylan break up, still live together, miscommunicate and then communicate. And learn about some flowers.

Summary
“Hey, so why was your stuff here in the first place?”
At an instant, Wylan’s bright smile turns precarious. It’s not so much anything to do with his expression as it is the sudden tense in posture, the way he so obviously tries to look unbothered.
Jesper grimaces, just as instantly. “You don’t have to–”
“It’s nothing. It was part of a treatment this ‘doctor’ my father called had, for my reading…” Wylan makes a small, unspecific gesture with an awkward smile. The silence that hangs is thick.
–
A discovery of a locked-away box of Wylan’s childhood belongings stirs up an argument between Jesper and Wylan, and then a conversation—but not before bringing up a few memories too.

Summary
“Do you believe in…” A whisper, barely audible in the silence of the night. It always surprises Jesper how quiet it can get in the nice part of town: in the barrel, loudness and iniquity are one and the same. But here, in the Geldstraat, there are no gunshots to disturb the peace at sundown, no drunken howling at the moon.
“Do you believe in what?” He has his attention then, Jesper knows it. The crackling of the fire cradles him, warming his stiff muscles into pleasant pliancy.
“In a God, or Goddess, or Saint. Or any sort of higher power.”
He seems to pause and think at that, blue eyes straying towards the window and the dark sky beyond the glass. He brings two nimble fingers to play with a curl, painted red by the firelight, in a self-soothing gesture. “I used to pray, when I was a kid, that I’d learn how to read. If there is a God out there, her cruelty is matched only by her negligence.”
Alternatively: Wylan doesn't believe in a God. Jesper fucks him so hard he changes his mind.Bookmarked by rc_bailey

Summary
“I figured now that you’ve inherited your father’s empire, and the tidy sum of petty cash in his safe, you’d want your right-hand man to look presentable. On top of being devilishly handsome of course.”
“My right-hand man?” Wylan asks, raising an amused brow. Who’s being presumptuous now?
“Paperwork to be drawn up…?” Jesper offers a cheeky grin, but he’s clearly off-kilter. His fingers tap against the smooth varnish of the bedpost, brush through his hair, touch his revolvers, twirl the rings in his long fingers. His silver eyes are roving over Wylan’s face, searching, reading, before he takes a breath. “I meant what I said you know, I will help you. If you'll have me,” he adds sheepishly.
It makes Wylan’s toes curl.
...or Jesper and Wylan's first times at the Van Eck mansion, because we all need closure.

Summary
Hands go around Wylan’s neck three times in his memory, at varying degrees of official strangulation. He wonders if with each time, he became more separated from his body, or more forced to reconcile with it. Either way, he’ll try to keep all that mess locked away under the surface, hidden away from Jesper especially because he can’t stand to lose him. Shouldn’t he have known it would all come crashing down?
-
A few moments of Wylan’s life, three of which where he was being choked, and the night where his secret—his father, his past, and seemingly everything else—is revealed.
