Summary
In a game that’s considered an escape from reality for Jayce, he soon discovers there are more parallels in the fantasy to his own life than he first thought. Viktor's character, The Herald, is more human than he thought, and has begun making those human feelings known to Jayce- er, The Defender.
Viktor assures him that in-game flirting with friends is part of the fun of D&D, but with a hoard of mind-controlled robots to defeat, and his master’s thesis due soon, the lines have begun to blur for Jayce.
Maybe his feelings- or, his character’s feelings, of course- for Viktor are the least of his problems.
Or maybe they’re at the center of it all.

“Who?” Jayce asks in return, looking up from where he's preparing their dinner, a rabbit they'd chanced upon earlier.
“My intended, your king. I've never met him.”
“His majesty is-” Jayce looks like he's thinking too carefully. “Generally well liked. Tall.”

Back before, in the years feel as distant as if in another life, back when he was built better and tended to himself more, sitting in wait was one the best parts of their play. The ache that would build in his thighs and belly from holding so still would only sink his mind down more, have him needy and patient.Good, like Viktor deserved.
Now those aches don't build; they just are, always and no different than every other moment of the day. Now, his mind rolls around itself, chasing some far away memory that doesn't belong to him anymore.

Summary
Viktor's decision to play a little prank on the man next to him on the airplane almost backfires when he claims an attractive but dangerous-looking stranger is his husband. But much to Viktor's delight, the man goes along with the prank.
Jayce's on-the-spot decision to play along with some kind of prank he's walked into almost backfires on when the passenger he's helping to prank suggests visiting a chapel once they've landed to "renew their vows" and tags along to serve as their witness.
But there's a spark between them that neither can deny, and when Jayce suggests that they take a honeymoon trip to give their fake-but-real marriage a trial run, Viktor is intrigued enough to agree.

Jayce rubs a hand over his face. “Yeah. I mean, I’ve never been to a gynecologist either, but that’s more of a gender crisis thing than a crunchy trad-Pilt thing. You get it.”
He says it lightly, a snort or a roll of Viktor’s eyes expected.

Viktor takes a moment to dip his dumpling into soy sauce, taking a bite and chewing slowly. Jayce feels like he’s vibrating out of his skin, Viktor’s hand hot on his knee.
“The Hexclaw attaches and moves with our movements, like a third arm. I want this to give me sensation. That I feel through it. I’m attempting to adapt what we’ve used for the Hexclaw for this.”
“For a…vibrator?” Jayce furrows his brows.
“It’s not a vibrator, Jayce,” Viktor says patiently. “It’s a strap-on.”
In which Jayce can't keep his nose out of Viktor's business (his messy lab desk) and thus, the Hexstrap is born.

“Aren’t you supposed to be a demon?” Jayce looks the decidedly humanoid figure up and down. The demon (if that is indeed what he is) arrows his eyes. The strange, seductive glamour around him wavers.
“I am a demon. A tentacle demon, if we are going to be technical about it.”
“It’s just… You don’t look like a tentacle demon.”
“Oh, I am sorry, let me just—” The self-proclaimed tentacle demon rolls his eyes. In the next moment, his form seems to unfurl, and he unleashes his— well, his tentacles. His sclera darken to a deep, inky black, and his shadow fills the room. If the demon’s expression weren’t so deadpan, Jayce might have pissed himself in fear. As it is, the demon’s tentacles wiggle limply in a poor approximation of jazz hands, as if to say ‘ta-da!’
Slow, horrible realization creeps over Jayce. He just microaggressed a demon. He's a monster. Worse, he’s… rude.

"Such a romantic," Viktor deadpans.
Jayce laughs. "Yeah, kinda. Not that it needs to be, like, wedding night sex, I just want—"
"—Somebody who elected to be there without financial incentive."
"Exactly."
"Let me do it," Viktor says, right as Jayce is mid-gulp of his moscow mule. Perfect timing. He half chokes and half laughs, but Viktor is committing to the bit, his eyebrows raised expectantly.
"Oh shit. Like actually, V?"
Jayce has a kink he’s itching to satisfy. His lab partner finally puts him out of his misery.

The words are harsh, but Viktor's tone is so gentle; so loving that there is no room for offense to sink in. Plus, he's right. This cycle isn't getting him anywhere but further in his own mess of a mind, deeper into the depression or dissociation or whatever label one could tack on to Jayce's current mental state...
"One such fact still being that I shouldn't be here." he mumbles in response, chapped lips catching on the plush mounds of his palm.
"So why are you, then?"
