Summary
Katsuki thought he got himself out of the habit of finding himself in inconvenient situations, but his irrational fear of his mother and terrible improvisation skills has left him with a fake boyfriend who is no one other than long-term rival Todoroki Shouto, who is way more okay with the whole situation than he should be. Everything goes tits up when Mitsuki invites Katsuki's "boyfriend" to a family friend's wedding in Jeju Island for a week as Katsuki's date.
" "So. How long have I been your boyfriend?"
Katsuki choked on his own spit, looking at him like he just grew another head.
"Jesus Christ, Candy Cane. Don't just say shit like that!"
"Why not? We want it to be convincing right? Might be a bit obvious if you react like that when I'm referred to as your boyfriend." God there was that word again. Katsuki's not sure he will get used to it. "

It goes like this: Katsuki’s feelings for the stupid Half ‘n’ half bastard are an indefinable thing somewhere in the realm of rivals-but-not-enemies and friends-but-not-platonic, all of which Kirishima says leaves a pretty obvious conclusion, which Katsuki ignores. This lasts for a fairly solid period of time, until one of their last nights back at UA, when Katsuki fucks up inconceivably, and actually goddamn kisses the bastard.
It goes like this: Todoroki never says a word about it, so Katsuki doesn’t either. If they’re pretending it never happened—or if, fuck, Todoroki somehow managed to forget—then that’s -- fine. Fucking peachy, even.
Doesn’t ache at all.
Love, sometimes, is too big to speak of.

Is this what Izuku felt, all those years under Katsuki’s boots?
“I’m sorry…” He choked out. “Fuck, I’m sorry.”
But Izuku wasn’t here to apologize to. Worse than that, he wasn’t here for Katsuki to admit that somewhere in the last year, he’d fallen head over heels for the one person who’d never left his side, no matter how bad shit got. He knew Izuku would never forgive him for the horrible things he’d done as a kid, and Katsuki accepted that.
He’d never earn Izuku’s forgiveness, not even if he spent the rest of his life on his knees begging. And he would not, absolutely never, forgive himself for all the damage he’d caused.

OR: Katsuki gets hit with a quirk to punish him for his past. It drives him to protect the thing he loves most from the thing that causes it the greatest harm. What if Katsuki himself is the greatest harm to the person he loves most?
