Summary
"I have to go soon," Shane rasped. He was wearing a Dynamo sweater even though he had plenty of his own clothes here. Sleep still clouded his mouth.
Ilya could have done anything then. Said he needed sleep. Gone to kiss Shane where the hoodie string had left an imprint across one cheek. It wasn't a free day for Shane. At best they had an hour.
Instead he said, without any conscious thought at all: "How did he fuck you?"

The not-quite-infidelity fic that is also not quite as angsty as you'd think, but is definitely all things amazing, and maybe a touch heart-rending, but also just plain hot XD

I have a distinctive memory of reading this under the covers in a hotel room, heartbreaking a million times over because the story is beautiful but bleak and the bits of sunlight filtering through the roof are just another reminder that dusk is coming.
Sometimes, reading depressing things can cleanse you, or at least distract you from the actual depressing things happening in real life. That wasn't the case here. Reading this mostly just amplified everything for me, but I guess that ability to feel so deeply from a piece of art is beautiful too, and a testament to how much I adore this story

But for what it's worth, this story does have a brief, sort-of-happy sequel, one I'm quite content with incorporating into canon.

cb's fics always leave me with this sense that I'm missing something in between the lines. I don't really think that I am, or that it's intentional, but nevertheless. It's this elusive, fleeting sensation almost, something a bit like nostalgia for a time and place I've never experienced. I think I'll be chasing that feeling forever in her writing
Her whole bibliography is gonna be in my bookmarks someday. Probably.

Summary
Cliff was standing in the cracked out parking lot of a motel off the i-89 watching Roz chainsmoke his way through half a pack of smokes. It was raining and Roz’s hair was soaked, the curls plastered across the front of his forehead and dripping water into his eyes. He kept wiping at them with the back of his hand every couple of minutes like clock work but it didn't make a difference, the water kept coming anyways.

This story reminds me a lot of A Bleak Understanding in Reverse by lustmordred, morso in its themes than its content (though even then, they are not dissimilar. Actually, there’s something about the descriptions of highways and gas stations and driving that gives it a very SPN-like feel)
Quote
“So what? No one's going to ever know?”
“I don’t know. Maybe in the future something will come out. Maybe we made mistake somewhere and everyone learns about us... but I will not be the one to do this. All I can do is remove myself now.”
Shane's dead, Ilya's cleaning house, Cliff's watching everything, barely understanding and comprehending not at all, and I'm sitting here, sobbing, wondering why the hell I put myself through this agony and bookmarking this so I can do it all over again
Note to self: OP has some book recs in the ending notes I'd love to read
