Loki had far too much experience to know that madness is just one desperate act away.
Stripped of the body he'd always known, Loki is bound in his true form, that of a frost giant runt barely on the cusp of adolescence. Yet no one knows what lies under the false image of the disgraced second Prince of Asgard, certainly not Thor.
Loki would not survive the truth of his lineage being uncovered, but Odin still has use of his stolen relic.
However – weak from months in Asgard's dungeon after his near-death on Svartalfheim and Thanos' ministrations – Loki is stolen from Asgard's dungeons by Thor. As the only known wielder of two Infinity Stones, the Avengers hope to use Loki to uncover the reason behind their appearance on Earth. Especially in light of the Mind Stone taken form as their newest ally: the Vision.
But they are not the only ones who have use of a bound child mage.

Thor used to call Loki that when they were just wee little boys.
He looked again at the figure being brutally violated: an Ásá sized Jöt. Lithe frame, aside from his swollen middle, and thick black hair so pitch it reflected blue. The blindfold covering most of the Jöt’s face was removed, kohl lined crimson eyes of a very familiar shape rolled back and shone with tears. Ymir’s crown graced his forehead; the well-known housemark of Jötunheimr's royalty.

Heike, whether real or a mirage, offers Bucky a gentle smile. It’s full of inviting warmth, but there’s sadness in there, too, hiding under her striking red lipstick.
“I’m here for the same reason as you are”, Heike says enigmatically. Her eyes meet Bucky’s, bright with something akin to reverence, and affection for someone else. “Every soul is tethered somewhere. A place, a person. Sometimes the space is shared.”
Bucky doesn’t have time to reconsider stepping between Zemo and the bullet, nor does he find the will to regret it after his body hits the ground. But while he floats between the thin line of life and death, Bucky meets someone from beyond the veil who offers him clarity about something he hadn't dared to even fathom.

Summary
Solitary confinement, notorious for its inhumane nature. Light’s psyche, of course, is made of sterner stuff than most, so this would be a minor blip in the grand scheme of things; his tumultuous path to godhood.
What Ryuk neglected to tell Light is that the death note's ability to erase human memory is not exactly fool proof, and what remains of that human memory is enough to drive any man to pure, horrific madness.
