So begins Shen Yuan’s balancing act of completing these nonsensical missions, hiding his identity, and staying on the good side of the super tsundere, cat-like man known as Shen Jiu, who keeps saying stuff like ‘I’ll kill you if I find out you’re a demon’.
TDLR; this whole fic is an elaborate excuse to write catboy!SY going into heat.

Summary
Years before he entered the Scholomance, Shen Yuan knew he would die there. The Scholomance eats people. It chews them up and doesn’t even have the decency to give back the bodies. Odds of survival are bad for anyone who isn’t part of a sect, but Shen Yuan knows himself to be particularly doomed, even beyond the normal standard.
Luo Binghe is dragged out of his normal life and into the Scholomance by accident. Ignorant and unprepared, he is surrounded by people who can’t or won’t help him because they have to look out for their own survival. No one expects him to live for long - at best, he’ll distract a monster going after someone more important, with a better chance to make it out alive.
It’s a struggle to survive the Scholomance. It requires coldness and calculation.
It’s the wrong time and place to fall in love.
