Summary
Shane should be here right now, should be in Ilya’s house. Ilya should be teasing him about being picky while going through delivery options for food on his phone. Shane should be discovering that Ilya has ginger ale in the fridge and the protein bars Shane mentioned liking in an interview in his pantry. He should be making out with Shane on the couch, sneaking a hand into his pants, teasing him about whether they can beat the deliveryman and arrive before he does. Shane was supposed to spend the night tonight, the Montreal team not set to leave until tomorrow afternoon because of potential bad weather in the morning. Shane should be fed and showered and ready to curl up in bed with Ilya tonight.
But Shane is in a hospital.And Ilya is here.
He pulls up Jane in his phone again. He presses call.
“Hey, you’ve reached Shane Hollander-”
Ilya closes his eyes and lets Shane’s voice roll over him.
(canon divergence in which shane getting injured happens during a game in boston) (...which means shane then gets to go home with ilya to recover)

During the All Star break in 2016 (in between the two Montreal cup wins), Shane Hollander’s life is upended when a rumor spreads through the league that he has a twin sister he has never talked about publicly. A twin sister named Jane. A twin sister named Jane who is dating Shane’s biggest rival, Ilya Rozanov.
Or what would have happened if the Boston team, with their hockey brains, knew that Rozanov had a girl named Jane and spotted a text where he referred to "her" as Hollander so they jumped to the wrong conclusion?

Summary
“You go first,” Shane says. "With the vows."
Ilya takes a deep breath, squeezes Shane’s hands in his. “Okay, okay, I will go first. But I have this problem.”
“What? What problem?”
“Is a terrible problem. You see, there is this hockey player.”
Shane just stares and then, right there, Ilya can see the moment it registers. The recognition.
A grin spreads across Ilya’s face. It's supposed to be a smirk but it isn’t. It's both too happy and too soft.
“This slow fucking hockey player with beautiful freckles.” Shane is laughing now. Laughing and maybe starting to cry. Ilya lets it hang for a moment.
“And a weak backhand.”“A weak backhand?” Shane knew it was coming and still he’s outraged.
“Yes, very weak.”
They’re both grinning, a little manic maybe.
“And he’s so boring and he drives this terrible car.”
“It’s a normal car," Shane says.
He says his line because he’s perfect. He gets it exactly right. Like Ilya knew he would. Because he remembers. Because they have done this scene before. But this time round they know how it ends too and it's not with anyone marrying Svetlana.
